FLORIDA With the Florida Legislature's regular session over, the state's counties, cities and towns have found themselves in a familiar situation.

Lawmakers in the Florida Senate and House this year continued to chip away at the power of local
governments to control everything from home-based businesses to cruise ships.

**************
Is it any wonder that many now think that the GOP stands for nothing, except power. Here is the GOP in Florida yanking power from local government and putting it in the hands of the state. Apparently, De Santis and the GOP think they know better than local government how much impact fees should be, what businesses should be in residential neighborhoods and how much authority cities and counties should have over local issues. Even the new voting restrictions the state imposed are creating nothing but headaches and potentially millions of dollars in additional costs for taxpayers and Democratic and Republican supervisor of elections, both groups who, by the way, opposed the new laws.

So, when the GOP bring up the over reach of the federal government, just remember they are hypocrites. They are only for local control when out of power. When in power, it is all about what they can do to stifle local government and help their donors.

So power grabs are fine, as long as it lines up with ones politics.

Priceless…

Your link requires a tax to be paid to view your Pravda, a tax I will not pay.

Shocking!

But no, it would not surprise me if any politician wishes to grab power.

It's simply what they do best.

You’re correct, the GOP stands for nothing but power, particularly centralization of power (in it’s own hands), they learned that from the Democrats.

The last time the GOP made decentralization of control a major party platform was in 1964, when Barry Goldwater was their Presidential Candidate, it’s been all downhill from there, apparently winning elections is more important than principles.:dunno:

I think you meant 1964.

True, there is nothing conservative about the Federal government.

They are all top notch collectivist like yourself.

The entire premise of you thread less intelligent than what a fifth grader could write. You claim he is overreaching by using state laws to protect the rights of his citizens. He’s not forcing anyone to do anything, he is enabling their freedom. People are still free to keep their businesses closed and people can still wear masks if they want. You’re right, he is yanking power from local governments, but he is giving it to the people, not the state. And this, you claim, is “socialism”.

You sir, are a moron.

DeSantis bad.

Not the same ring to as Orange man bad, but they have a new face to destroy so it will take some time.

Thanks for proving to all of us that are still an idiot.

Of course, the laws passed by the Florida House and signed into law ”force” local government to follow these regulations. You do understand how government works? You do understand that local Governments have to follow these laws signed by DeSantis?

Taking power from local communities and giving it to state bureaucrats is not giving power to the people.

Local Governments. Think about that.

Local Governments are NOT people. When the State government says to a local government, "You will enforce dead beat dad laws" is that socialism? Or is it that you are okay with the State government forcing local governments to do the things that the left supports?

I have little sympathy for people who only complain when the other side does it.

They have to control the exodus of dumb Democrats fleeing dumb Dem states and moving to Florida and bringing their dumb Dem policies with them.
