The first thing I thought about,,,,, were the animals in the Cali fires..

It breaks my heart that animals living in the hills and pets that were left behind were hurt or killed.

Do you know any upbeat stories about animals that were saved and survived?
Maybe the first thing to think about should be the people?

There was a video of a grief-stricken man outside his burning house hysterically begging for his cat (not his possessions) to be rescued. A firefighter approached him and in his arms, the cat. The men held out his arms and cradled the cat, falling to his knees laughing and crying with relief wetting the cats mouth from a bowl of water. It's the first time tears came to my eyes in a few years. Whatever can be done to help him, and his very beloved cat, may it happen. Blessings on the fireman who rescued that cat, too.

Thank you jackflash. That poor baby. 🙁 I really hope someone rescued her.
I hope so too. Deer depend primarily on their olfactory(ability to locate scent) capability to inform them where to go for safety, locate herd members & identify danger in general. With that heavy smoke it's knocked out her ability to know which direction to head to. With zero herd members left alive & her olfactory sensory capability heavily compromised she is as helpless as a three year old blind child. @ 0.10 into the vid she is trying to I.D. the camera person, then she heads off aimlessly having no idea where she is even going. That lil cutie pie is in the same predicament as a ship traveling on a dark moonless night in pea soup fog without radio, radar/sonar.

Below link; which creature has the best scent tracking capability???

Till next time!
