While I agree that the war on terror has been a failure, I think it has been a sham, Mr. Nawaz's remedy is ridiculous. He is just angry that someone called him a homophobe and so he started this personal crusade.
The failure is the consequence of addressing the problem of terrorism in the context of a conventional ‘war.’
One does not ‘go to war’ with terrorists; conventional military tactics are not only useless against terrorism, they actually encourage and foment terrorism.
The ‘war’ on terrorism is a failure because ‘terror’ has become a political issue, and a political weapon, where political opponents are accused of being ‘weak’ on terror, and those attacked as such consequently pursue the wrong policies to address terror – France being a prime example, where the liberty of the people and the rule of law have been undermined by a de facto police state.
The ‘war’ on terror is ultimately a failure because far too many citizens and political leaders of Western democracies were too willing to capitulate to their unwarranted fear of ‘terrorism,’ and surrender their freedom for the illusion of ‘security.’
