Panic on the stock exchange floor isn't the same thing as removing the equity and capital those stocks represent. It's is the buyers being scared to buy and the sellers not being able to sell for the prices they want.

As you point out, the "market" goes up and down frequently. Smart investors know to ride out the fluxations. Short term, get rich quick, flip investors will be the losers unless they change their method and ride this out.
