Hysteria from the MSM continues, however.

We can trust the data coming out of South Korea for two reasons. First, they are testing so many people that they’re getting an accurate understanding of the scope of the infection. Second, they are not a nation known for propaganda; their government and press work hard to make the available truth known.

This is why it’s so important to understand the motivations of American media outlets when they report on the coronavirus. Left-leaning Business Insider reported the same numbers we’re getting, yet they spun them so badly to turn the legend of the coronavirus (as compared to the reality of it) into one of devastation. It was a display of Propaganda 101: Make good news seem bad by framing it unfairly.

Here’s the reality based on data from South Korea:

  • Infected people age 50-59 are at a 0.4% death rate.
  • It drops dramatically to 0.09% for those 40-49 and 0.12% for those 30-39.
  • Currently, the death rate for those under 30 is at 0.00%; meaning no more than 1 or 2 young people have died out of nearly 8,000 infected.

To put it into perspective, that translates to one person dying out of 1000 infected among people under 50, and four deaths out of 1000 people between 50-59. The death rate for people under 50 is effectively the same whether they contract the coronavirus or the flu.

The media, of course, has created the hysteria in an effort to make our president look bad. Disgraceful.

Did the media force Trump to declare a national emergency? Is Trump now inciting hysteria by declaring a national emergency? If so, how is that the media’s fault?

The national emergency was enacted to get federal funds to the states...

In case you missed the news today, Trump declared a national emergency because of the virus today.

YES...so that federal dollars could be released to the states...

All one needs to do is compare the coverage of the swine flu (H1N1) a decade ago to this hysteria.

• Muh, Russia failed.

• Ukraine failed.

• Fauxpeachment failed.

• Now they move to the Woo-hoo virus.

Are you saying the actions taken by the US government are not necessary? Are you trying to encourage young people to not take precautions because the risk of death is so low?

Obviously not John....look at the market climb while he was speaking....

I agree with you. I thought the national emergency showed that Trump was taking control of the situation which is exactly what he should have done. I totally agree with his actions today.

The OP calls the coronavirus “hysteria” created by the media. If the OP says the media is creating hysteria then is Trump exacerbating the hysteria by declaring a national emergency? I am trying to get to the bottom of whether the response to the virus is “hysteria”. Would it have been better if Trump took no action?

I see your point...but the media is reporting this in a very different way than they did with HINI or swine flu in 2009....so its understandable that Trump supporters will give credence to an anti Trump media hype scenario....you can understand that...

No more so than the seasonal flu as far as this virus goes for young people. What do we shut down for the seasonal flu?

Tom Hanks and his wife say they are quarantined and being treated and actually are feeling better today....
