Russia won’t give up Crimea without a nuclear fight. He took it back in the Obama days, and even Obama wasn’t going to try. Crimea has been their Naval port since the 1700’s. They had it on lease from the old Ukraine government (pre-coup) for something like 50 years.

Nope, they are giving it up. They have gotten themselves in an untenable position. They will have no choice, other than the nuclear option, which will render a response that will effectively neutralize them for a generation.

First, their position. The reason they wanted Crimea all along will be the cause of their demise. They army has basically retreated to Crimea and now Ukraine is systematically cutting off all their supply lines. In no small way, Crimea will be Russia's "Alamo", except there won't be much of an army left to use "Crimea" as a rallying cry. By April the Russian army will be very low on ammunition and damn near out of food. Then Ukraine starts tightening the noose that is Crimea, unconditional surrender will be the only option to save what is left of the Russian army.

The nuclear option? Russia goes down that road not only do they lose their army, but their Navy becomes obliterated. NATO will jump in full force, every Russian ship in the Black Sea will be at the bottom within 48 hours. And in the end, the only fight will be which NATO nation gets which parts of Russia as the country ceases to exist on any meaningful level. And if Putin doesn't take the Hitler option, eating a bullet, he will be faced with the same fate as Mussolini and Ghedaffi.
