The Daniel Fast

Better still, just buy a copy of Ehret's book: Mucousless Diet Healing System. He explains it all there. A few of the ideas in his book have later been proven scientifically doubtful (such as his theory on white blood cells) but this has no bearing on the efficacy of his conclusions.

Interestingly, upon reaching the pinnacle of health, examination of his blood showed a dearth of white blood cells right along with his prediction.
Sounds like he goes too far into the weeds for me. However, I could benefit from less mucus in my system (going to work on the 'come next spring'). I've already given up alcohol and fried foods.

Yeahbut, Bragg's book was published about 80 years after Ehret came out with his pivotal publications, so if anything, Bragg borrowed ideas from Ehret, Ehret was not simply restating other people's ideas and works.
This is likely true. The 'health culture' movement in America began about the time of Ehret's death in 1922. Bragg was a disciple of another health guru who was likely inspired by Ehret. Bragg's writings strongly reflect Ehret's principles. That said I think both missed some important aspects of health, namely the effect of poor dietary habits on the immune system.

I'm pretty sure that Ehret covers that too.

Isnt that pretty close to your normal eating habits?

Well...not exactly. :) The fast I was talking about is unprocessed, uncooked, whole plantbased foods...and more often than I should, I eat vegan stuff like beyond burgers, vegan mac & cheese, vegan pizza... heck, occasionally even vegan hot dogs. But I would like to move toward a fully WFPB diet, at least incorporate more of that into my daily diet.

ut I would like to move toward a fully WFPB diet, at least incorporate more of that into my daily diet.

Sounds pretty boring eating raw broccoli. I've seen many vegan gourmet chefs who eat zero meat, have never even tasted meat or seafood yet still are able to raise the level of their diet very high using culinary skill.

If I went 100% raw foods, fruits make a much more tasty target than raw vegetables, but keep in mind that raw is a more aggressive cleaner than cooked, and fruits are more aggressive cleaners than veggies, so, best to start slow and work yourself up.

I should've been more clear. Although the Daniel fast I was originally talking about was raw..... In my last post, a WFPB (whole food plant-based) diet doesn't have to be raw. It's just whole, unprocessed plantbased foods. That's what I was saying last night that I wanted more of in my daily diet. Although some people swear by a totally raw plantbased diet, I don't think I could do that for the long term. I maybe could do the "raw til 4" thing, which for me would basically be just breakfast. :dunno: Sometimes I do that anyway, I'll just have fresh fruit for breakfast. But I also love cooked savory breakfasts too. :)

I just watched a chef last night on Gordon Ramsey prepare a gourmet dish with scallops and she was allergic to scallops, could die if she ate one, yet Gordon said it was delicious. Not sure how she did that without being able to even taste the food!

I'm off now to eat a few vegetable egg rolls (I prefer the all veggie ones best of all).

If you read Ehret, you know it is best to get used to an all cooked veggie diet first before going to raw, and best to go all raw and get used to that first before trying an aggressive all fruit diet or fast based on fruits like cherries or grapes.

Slightly related, but around 2019 I think, I developed gallbladder issues. I was vomiting TEN hours straight at times. I didn't want surgery and tried to avoid it with diet. It helped, but eventually I had the surgery and that's when they discovered cancer.

Anyway, the only relief I got wasn't eating a natural diet without sugars and white, processed carbs. I ate what I called, "God Food" -- food GOD created in it's natural state. That gave me relief from the abdominal pain.but, as you know Buttercup, you cannot easily put on "weight" (fat) on a natural diet. I ate only vegetables, no fruit, and lentils.

The abdominal pain went mostly away, but not completely.

At the time, I was overweight (220). 60 days after my "diet" began, my weight stabilized at 160 -- 60 pounds in 60 days. Now I felt TOO thin!

The gallbladder problem actually saved my life. It was then they discovered stage 2 cancer. if it went undiagnosed a few months later, I wouldn't be here today.

Anyway, this experience is why I always advocate a natural foods diet (God Food -- Eden Food)

Mmm, veggie egg rolls sounds yummy. (I sometimes buy those, but not the kind that actually contain egg of course.) Btw, back in November when I posted to you that I was going to buy Ehret's book...I went to Amazon to buy it, but there was a problem because they had my old debit card and even when I updated the information, the transaction still didn't go through. So after that I forgot about it, but now that I'm reminded of it, I'll be sure to try it again. :) What you said about doing things in the right order makes sense. But other than occasional one-week fasts or "cleanses" I don't think I'll ever go to a diet that is too restricted, like 100% raw. I like variety. But again I do want to incorporate more whole foods and raw food.

Of course I totally agree with you about "God Food".... even though I need to do better when it comes to that. That reminds me of something that a raw vegan YouTuber (Ms.FitVegan) says... something like "If God didn't make it, I don't take it." You should check out her channel. She's kinda blunt and sometimes has the mouth of a truckdriver, but she can be really funny and she has some very interesting things to say. She has some controversial ideas on things like vitamin B12 and other supplements. And she has some good guests on her channel, including doctors and others who have a lot of experience and wisdom when it comes to nutrition.

Anyway, you have a cool story, and I'm glad that you share it... Heck, you should write a book or be a guest on someone's channel, like Chris Beat Cancer. (Another great channel to subscribe to)

Has anyone here ever done this before? For anyone who isn’t familiar with the Daniel fast (or the Daniel diet), it’s basically a strictly whole food, plant-based diet that people do for 10 days, or up to 21 days. I did this fast once before, and I’m thinking of doing it again.

If you’re wondering why…well, even though I am within the healthy range for my height, I feel like I need to lose 10 pounds. (If I do, I would still be within the healthy range.) Last time I did the Daniel fast, I lost a little bit of weight, but I only did it for a week. I definitely don't want to do it for 21 days, but I'm going to try for a week to 10 days this time.

When I did this fast before, I did a little differently, though. I ate ONLY fruits, vegetables, and a little bit of nuts and seeds. My dinners were mostly a big salad with homemade salad dressing. But not boring salads, they were actually really good. It was pretty much a fully raw WFPB diet, but without grains, legumes or other cooked food.

So anyone want to join me in this? Come on!
I'm kinda doing this now -- the last 3 days so far.

I have several reasons. I'm trying to break my snacking habit, and my sugar habit and reset my body.

With my CGM it's difficult keeping my levels within the target range. So far, I'm not on insulin and my doctor hasn't talked about it, so I'm try to keep ahead of this possibility.

Also, I'm doing it for spiritual reasons. Sometimes it's just good to deny yourself. It's good for the spirit.

My diet right now is very basic vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans and lentils, and water.

So far, it's been keeping glucose within the target range 100% and I really like that

That's great! How many days are you going to do it for?

Wanna know the truth? 12 weeks if I can. My doctor's appointments are every three months and it's mostly about trying to get my A1C numbers under control. She actually gave me a CGM monitor hoping it would help. So far it's one of the best things I've done in awhile. It keeps me motivated.

Also I have a goal to get my body fat percentage down to 10%> it's currently 18.

Wow! I'd like to hear what happens. Last time I did this I think it was only for 8 or 9 days. I lost a little bit of weight and I felt good after it. But I don't think I could do it for 12 weeks... unless I got used to it and stopped craving cooked, savory foods. hah

When I lost that 60 pounds in 60 days by eating similar to this, my weight plummeted so fast I was afraid there was something else going on. My mind was all over the place. But it stabilized at 160/165. That feels too thin for me, but I felt GREAT! The only way I e been able to keep my weight up where I like (175) is to add junk food. But that's where the sugar and bad carbs started.

I think I'm just supposed to be thin. I think your body just stabilizes where it's supposed to be when you eat right.

Interesting. Giving ones digestive tract a break from americas toxic food cannot be a bad thing.
