Then they should stop the utterly failed strategy of flattening the curve, which has not worked for 10 months, can never work to end any epidemic, and never has done anything but maximized the death toll.
Any doctor will admit that all epidemics are only ended by herd immunity, and that works best if you accelerate infection, not slow it down.

It did work according to Trump. He said that there would be 2.2 million deaths by now if they didn’t flatten the curve. What say you?

No, it was Fauci who said we had to flatten the curve, not Trump, and he predicted 4 million deaths if we went the route of herd immunity.
But there are 3 main mistakes in Fauci's estimate.
He used a lethality estimate of 1.5%, and once wider testing was done, it was discovered 90% of infected were asymptomatic so not counted, and a more accurate estimate of lethality is 0.15%.
Then he assumed no one was inherently immune, so then 70% of the population, or 230 million, would have to be infected and recover. Since children and those 90% asymptomatic seem inherently immune or highly resistant, the number needing to be infected and recover then actually is more like 7% or 23 million only.
Then there is the fact over 80% of the deaths are from people over 70. So if you use young volunteers, then you reduce the death rate by an additional factor of 40.
So then instead of 4 million, it would have only been like 4 thousand dead, and it would have been gone.

It is foolish to claim that herd immunity has anything at all to do with vaccines.
Clearly epidemics have come and gone for hundreds of millions of years, and it was herd immunity them ended them all.
Vaccines have only been around about 200 years, so could not possibly be what ended them.
While vaccines are nice and safer, they have never ended any epidemic in progress, because they take too long to develop.
For example, the last polio epidemic was in 1948, and it was essentially over before the Salk vaccine became available in 1957.

Nor is a vaccine a good idea for something like covid-19, where the virus is not what is deadly, and the immune system over reaction is what does kill people.
Any vaccine that works, is also likely to trigger the deadly immune response.
Nor is a vaccine useful since covid-19 is not endemic to humans and not likely to come back ever.
Since covid-19 is mostly just a risk to elderly, we could easily end it with herd immunity, quickly and safely, using only young volunteers.

I saw first hand that what we are seeing on TEE VEE, and hearing on the radio, and reading in the papers, is complete hyperbole. This is nothing but a bad flu season and folks coming in for health care they put off from spring and summer.

But overall, in the breadth of the US, the hospitals are quiet and the actual statistics bear that out. Sure I do....whenever I see or hear one of these propaganda pieces I look at hospital occupancy rates in that area and also the volumes of tests run and positives, and critical cases. I look at all the stats. Plus the contacts we have in many hospitals across the US, and the 102 people I personally know who have had Covid add to my informational background. How bout you?

I know many people in the medical field and work with traveling nurses so I get most my trusted intel from people working the front lines.

Any medical professional should tell you that all epidemics once established, are and can only be ended by herd immunity.
And then actually you do not then want to "flatten the curve", but instead accelerate infection locally, within those who are least vulnerable, as quickly as possible. Delaying infection rates only makes it last longer, which then kills far more.
