As for “cheap shit made with cheap labor, without safety or environmental protections”, why would that happen? We still regulate our own markets, and we already have regulations that encourage safety and environmental protections.

If we are "******* up" and it will ONLY raise prices for US, with no other effect, then why are our trading partners so upset?

Because upsetting the entire balance in global trade is destabilizing. Chaos. Trump’s favorite thing.

The hard times from FREE TRADE was supposed to be termporary. US firms would learn to be better, unions would settle down and the jobs would come back.

Instead, the jobs stayed overseas or were given to cheap third world labor.

So, that's a FAIL for that policy. That the macro economic numbers were good and the rich managed to adjust to save their portfolies, is not the point. Oh and the economists were completely wrong and have never admitted it. That means that they have zero credibility.

Trade policy has always been a government function. It is not on the consumer who does not have the facts or information in front of them as they shop.

Because US regulations do not extent to overseas facilities. The point of evnviromental protections and safety regulates is not to move the pollution and injuries adn deaths to where the brown people live.

You are FIGHTING to protect the ability to manufacturers to AVOID those enviromential and safety laws.

If all that we are doing is raising prices for OUR consumers, that would not make chaos in global trade.

If you were right, the rest of the world would not care. They would just be letting us tax our citizens and being happy living their own lives.
