Should have gained a super majority in the US Senate, it did not. In fact the GOP held steady. Should have gained a majority of state governor seats. It did not. In fact the GOP GAINED governor seats....Should have retaken state legislatures. It did not. In fact republicans picked up seats from democrats. In fact many states maintained their majorities in state legislatures. NC has for the first time in 100 years an all GOP legislature and a GOP governor.
It appears your assessment of the demise of the GOP is premature.

Democrats are clustered in urban areas where they often get 80 to 90% of the congressional district vote. It is not surprising then that they failed to win the House even though they had a majority of the vote. The electoral college was certainly not representative of the popular presidential vote either, but no none is bitching about that. It is just the way the system works. The House is safe for Republicans as long as they have sway in rural areas.

California alone would break the blue empire. What Millbank isn't recognzing that the states considered poor, like Alaska, West Virginia, Kentucky and Montana are very very wealthy. They are kept poor by a federal government that has regulated exploitation of natural resources out of existence. West Virginia and Kentucky have vast mines. Montana is part of the Bakken field. Alaska is delirously wealthy with oil and natural gas. Louisiana would no longer need federal permits to drill off their own gulf coast lines.

Once states seceded, they would be directing these efforts themselves. Farmland would no longer be subjected to the EPA regulations and could grow. Whereas the orchards and fields of California would still be fallow and abandoned to protect the delta smelt.

That's just for starters. The confederacy of blue state takers would still be drifting into degeneracy with a population finding escape in drugs, lazyness and sex without consequences. How wealthy would red states become without having to support the leech cities of Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Flint, Dearbornistan, In a perfect liberal world, these cities are glittering hubs of industry and commerce. In reality they are individual war zones. The Red State Nation would be well rid of them.

Land mass can't vote.

Presidential elections should be decided by county. Each state should do as Nebraska and Maine do. The counties won by each candidate mandate the Electors votes.
This balances the voting strength between urban and non urban areas.
The current system disenfranchises non urban voting precincts.
Oh we still have to reconcile the ZERO vote totals in 59 Philadelphia precincts. The precincts where there were more votes cast than eligible voters.
And other nonsense. Of course voter ID is going to become an even larger campaign issue in states where people have had enough of the cheating.

WV and KY....vast mining opportunities you say? Once the states broke the unions, who would mine the coal? Illegal immigrants?

Alaska is deliriously rich with oil. Sarah Palin already has the oil companies paying the state for the right to work there. Without protected shipping lanes, how will this oil be transported? Or do you foresee Alaska with all of it's wealth creating a Navy too?

Farmland? What farmland? Without the farm subsidies provided by the Federal government, most farmers would go out of business.

You are assuming that all people are like lazy democrats. Who worked in the mines before the unions? People who wanted to work. Farm subsidies are used to pay farmers NOT TO GROW and keep prices artificially high and satisfy agreements regarding importation of produce. Take away the farm subsidies and the fields would bloom. With the money Alaska could have, yep they can hire their own Navy.

We have become a country literally terrified of freedom. If we stop paying farmers not to grow, whatever will they DO! They won't be able to survive if the government didn't pay them not to grow food so we can adhere to agreements with Chile to buy what they grow.

So, why is it just RED states that take the farm subsidies? Why is it the GOP who always pushes back whenever the idea surfaces to eliminate said subsidies?

Umm, rural areas tend ot vote GOP. And in the world of politics, one must bring stuff home to get elected.
I think farm subsidies should be STOPPED.
