That's not how the economy works, Joe! Biden demands supermarkets cut soaring grocery prices

You believe in fairy tales?

Many grocery stores rip you off. He's telling the truth.
LOL...really, OK? So you think all the grocery stores have secretly gotten together to "fix" higher prices? It's a giant conspiracy of "greedy" corporate grocery stores?

Here's a dose of reality. Grocery stores compete against each other. If one chain was "price gouging" then shoppers would simply go to the competition. Shoppers aren't stupid. They know who's the cheapest and who's not! So unless you think there is some huge conspiracy taking place which by some miracle has been kept secret...Joe Biden's entire premise is laughable!

President Joe Biden took aim at grocery stores, blaming them for "ripping people off" with high pricing amid the continued inflation blame game.

President Biden's remarks came during a speech at the South Carolina’s First in the Nation Dinner in Columbia, South Carolina.

"Inflation is coming down. It’s now lower in America than any other major economy in the world," Biden said. "The cost of eggs, milk, chicken, gas, and so many other essential items have come down."

"But for all we’ve done to bring prices down, there are still too many corporations in America ripping people off: price gouging, junk fees, greedflation, shrinkflation," the president continued.

The president said that Americans are "tired" of being "played for suckers" by grocery stores across the country.

"Well, it’s going to stop. Americans, we’re tired of being played for suckers," Biden said to resounding applause. "And that’s why we’re going to keep these guys — keep on them and get the prices down."

Comment:
Biden is depending upon dumb people to believe his BS.
Biden and the Dems caused the inflation crisis with their greedy unnecessary $trillion dollar$ spending spree.
Now they are attempting to be the saviors of their own inflation crisis.
This is the sort of stuff that makes the Democrat Party a crazy political cult.
What makes them doubly dumbass is that they are attacking the very same corporations whose numbers bolster the stock market giving the government the economic data to brag about. All of them down in DC belong to the investor class and yeah they're doing good right now but main Street isn't.

Now while Biden is right that corporate greed plays a role in the still ever increasing prices, he refuses to address the mess that years and years of pumping and debt has done to contribute to it all.

All that free money for years was like heroin to corporations. It made profits easy. Now that it has slowed down (the pumping part, not the debt part) the corporations have to run up prices to record levels to maintain continued record profits to feed the habit.

This is an interesting point. Out one side of the mouth politicians crow about the record markets and then out of the other side condemn the reasons for that record market.

COVID gave them the opening to increase prices due to the talk of supply shortages...that was 3 years ago, the supply shortages are no longer or in the least minimized and prices should go down with supply increases.

Corporations have had RECORD PROFIT the last couple of years with all the price increases, which means they are getting those profits from gouging us, is the concern.....and should be the concern.
Then the government has no business using the stock market as an economic measuring tool. Force down bottom lines and you also force down the bellwether measures for the economy. Can't have it both ways.

Payoffs....boomerang bucks ( Ukraine for instance)....insider trading....shell companies.
Just to name a few.
Probably Bitcoin wallets too

When Clinton Foundation received $145M from Putin for selling 20% of our uranium, I thought for sure there was a separate $5MM in Bitcoin

The stock market was never used as an economic measuring tool by our Presidents,, until Trump used it to tout his economy.....

If a government can establish a minimum wage, what is to stop it from establishing a maximum wage? Nothing.

I'm not playing politics here I called out Trump on it when he did it too. Trump is one of the top 1% and does well when main Street does poorly. I'm just pointing out that it's ridiculous to brag about the stock market and then complain about bottom lines in the same breath.

One can play with economic stats factoring in the 1%, while ignoring the widening disparity

iirc, was the whole occupy wall street focus....

These people lie so much you can't keep all of their lies straight. For an administration who blamed Trump for never taking any responsibility for anything, Biden & Co blame everyone but themselves for anything bad that happens. They never take and responsibility for anything. It's always someone else's fault, no matter what it is.

Now it is grocery stores. Inflation means prices are going up. When inflation goes down from around 9% to around 3.5% it means prices are still going up 3.5%. It doesn't mean prices are going down, it just means that prices aren't going up as fast as they had been. And yet the Biden campaign is now trying to blame higher grocery prices on grocery stores, claiming that since inflation has come down then prices should actually come down, even though inflation is 3.5%, meaning prices are going up 3.5%. That's not how it works Joe. Inflation (3.5%) means prices are going up so you can't expect grocery stores to actually cut prices. This is their new campaign theme coming up, blame grocery stores for Biden's high prices.
