April 3 (Reuters) - A Chinese balloon that flew across the United States was able to gather intelligence from several U.S. military sites and transmit it back to Beijing in real time, despite the Biden administration's efforts to prevent it from doing so, NBC News reported on Monday.

The high-altitude balloon, controlled by Beijing, was able to make multiple passes over some of the sites before it was shot down on Feb. 4, at times flying in a figure-eight formation, NBC said, citing two current senior U.S. officials and one former senior administration official.

"The intelligence China collected was mostly from electronic signals, which can be picked up from weapons systems or include communications from base personnel, rather than images," NBC cited the officials as saying.

At the time, U.S. officials played down the balloon's impact on national security.

Our border not secured, our air not secured, and all this just a few weeks before China decided to buddy up with Russia.

I have a theory that the real motive behind the Chinese spy balloon was a test flight for an offensive attack on the US either releasing a toxic substance across the US or an EMP device. They can get great satellite imagery of every square foot of the US anytime they want. I think they wanted to see what our response would be, and if the balloon could be controlled for that long of a flight carrying a heavy weight.

Remember, there were people on here angry that there was so much desire to shoot down an "innocent weather balloon that went off course".

Next question, "why would China want this information"?

Maybe, but as the article points out, upon examination of the wreckage, they found technology that allowed them to capture our signals and send it back to China. That's probably something they can't do with a satellite.

In any case, Dementia allowed this balloon to fly over the entire country for a week. Either he knew about it and did nothing until a citizen reported it, or our military is severally lagging in protecting our country.

If we are to believe our military (which is no longer a given) they were tracking the balloon from the time it launched. Biden did as he was told, stand down and allow the CCP test flight to be completed before he ordered it shot down in the ocean. That was so the evidence wouldn't be discovered by another alert citizen.
