he Texas House voted Monday afternoon to track down and arrest more than 50 Democratic lawmakers who were not present when the chamber gaveled in. After the 85-6 vote, House Speaker Dustin Burrows said he would immediately sign civil warrants for each of the legislators, empowering the chamber’s sergeant-at-arms and state troopers to arrest and bring them to the Capitol.

They will not face civil or criminal charges from the arrests. The warrants apply only within state lines, making them largely symbolic as most of the legislators in question decamped to Illinois, New York and Massachusetts to forestall passage of the GOP’s proposed redraw of Texas’ congressional map.

These warran5s are NOT valid outside of Tex-Ass are not valid. fGovernor Abbot and Costello has no power and he knows it.

This may lead to a political mess once there are critical hand outs to Dem voting blocs that people need that cannot be processed due to them not sitting in.

They will then feel pressure to return to Texas or face a Red Wave and the authorities can then choose to act on the warrants or not.

Yeah!? So?......

It's the beginning of the legal process of having them removed. I'm surprised you didn't catch on to that.

It's the first step in the removal process.
It's possible that they can be considered officially removed in lieu of an appellate decision and the legislation pushed through.

I wonder who paid for the CO2-belching private jet to take these people to heavily-gerrymandered blue states?

Stay out of Texas. Don’t come back. Texas is a successful Red state and doesn’t need failed Democrat policies bringing it down to the levels of comparable states such as California, New York, Illinois and Michigan where people are fleeing those states to red states due to failed liberal policies.

Is Gerrymandering good or bad? I am not a fan of it and wish we could get rid of it across the board. If it is here to stay, then I accept it as simply being a derivative of “elections have consequences.” I can’t take Democrats seriously when they hold power and gladly draw lines per their favor and then cry like victims when Republicans do it.

Here is one who is being consistent in opposing gerrymandering.

Again, drawing the lines is something that is usually done once a decade after the census comes in and the state knows how many districts it has. It was done 4 years ago. What the democrats are protesting is doing it again so quickly.

What do you expect? They have all absolutely devoted themselves publicly to the concept that they will positively seek another impeachment.
So yeah there's going to be some pushback.
Additionally Abbot made some interesting comments about the existing racially oriented political co-ops that have formed across the current map.

An adherance to standard order and procedure.

When you start lopping off departments of the government without congressional approval, that is bound to happen.

What do you expect?

Pushback is fine. Suspending normal order is not. Internal GOP numbers must be seriously in the toilet if they are this scared of losing their majority.

There's nothing written in stone about normal with the exception that the governor has the authority call for a redistricting. Stepping outside in the the norms was already established with the second impeachment attempt. So basically **** them!

And the 4 year fight over NY's redistricting, and the supposedly "nonpartisan" commission in California giving Dems an 80/20 representation split while the voter split is 60/40.

The reality is quorums were designed to prevent a plurality making itself a majority by selectively denying opposing legislators access to a chamber. It was never intended for use like this.
