It's that time again. Testing season is almost upon us. After Christmas break it's going to eat up a lot of the rest of the year.

You have my sympathies. I was the testing coordinator for my school for two years before I moved to admin, and we did several types of tests, including the FCAT which took a good week and a half. I did such a great job, the principal made me keep it when I got promoted to AP. and I did it another two years.

The first test in question allows some directions to be explained to students in their first language, so I'm pretty much always a proctor. Tedious.

At one of my later schools, because I was very familiar with testing procedures for special education students, the counselors always had me administer the tests usually as a reader for individual students. I always could count on not having a class, so I could fill in wherever needed. I did that for three years at that school.

Kentucky and Florida have vastly different job duties for assistant principals and guidance counselors. In Florida, guidance counselors were more like teachers with a specialty in counseling. In KY, the guidance counselors did a lot of the duties that APs did in Florida. For example, as an AP, I handled all curriculum assignments, and I made the master schedule for the school. I could even make course changes with no assistance from the counselors. In KY, that definitely was not the case as we had one AP and 4 counselors.
