"tens of millions of dead people may be collecting social security"

Can they show any of those people collecting money?

They just are numbers that haven’t been registered as dead
Some years ago in my area, two brothers and a sister were charged with defrauding SS by cashing their moms checks. She was in a freezer for many years.

I have to believe that there are a lot of desperate people out there that would do the same thing.

You truly have to be brain dead to believe there are "millions" of dead Americans collecting Social security.
If proper infrastructure was followed in the Los Angeles fires, perhaps there would be 25% less destruction or more from them. There are people stealing and cheating. Cleaning it up is a positive. We saw our limits with the illegals and the inner-city residents having money allocated to them reduced to pay for sanctuary status. And the inner city elected to power telling their own to go screw themselves.

It will eventually catch up with you

At least according to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

President Trump has directed Elon Musk and the DOGE team to identify fraud at the Social Security Administration. They haven’t dug into the books yet, but they suspect that there are tens of millions of deceased people who are receiving fraudulent Social Security payments,” she said.

There are only about 70 million people in total getting SS. There may be hundreds of deceased getting payments, but certainly not millions or tens of millions.

I mean, seriously. Does anyone really think that 1/3 of recipients are dead?

Over the weekend, Musk posted a table supposedly showing that the Social Security database has millions of people in it over the age of 140.

"Ninety-eight percent of social security number holders who are age 100 or older do not receive benefits, Justin Wolfers, professor of public policy and economics at the University of Michigan, explained on X. “Why are there dead people on (this one table of) the social security database? They died before the use of electronic death records,” he added.

So the real question here is are they really that stupid?

Or do they just think you are?

Liars.

The SSA system For ending payments to deceased people is actually very efficient. Ask anyone who works in banking.

That's pretty much the only way to get away with this fraud. And the number of felonies that would have to be committed to maintain that fraud in perpetuity would send you to prison for decades. It just doesn't happen.

Your post spot on and very true.
States issue death certificates.

States report the deceased's SSNs to the feds.

The SSA Admin then stops payments. If an extra payment after death has been made, the banks have to send that money back.

If that takes the account negative, the banks are stuck collecting on the loss.

"millions" of dead Americans collecting Social Security, could be 20 milliom. Could easily be. Never underestimate the capacity of govt workers to grab whatever they can.

When robbers are at work, they make THEIR OWN rules.

My guess is tens of thousands. But the number should be zero. Prosecutions of anyone knowingly failing to notify SS of a death or again knowingly collecting benefits for a dead person should be prosecuted to the extent of the law. I’m sure there are a large number of people who are so disorganized that they have no idea that SS benefits are flowing into a joint account held with a dead person. They shouldn’t be prosecuted, just made to repay the money.

Robbing and raping will send the perpetrators to prison for decades, but it doesn’t stop criminals.

OK show where people are being paid who were actually dead

With 20 million, it should be easy

Are Democrats really going to go down the same road they did with election fraud. A case is brought forward that proves that fraud is not only possible, but has occurred, but Democrats claim that it must be proven tens of thousands of times for it to be considered significant or meaningful in any way.
