Ted Cruz backs county clerks denying marriage licenses to gay couples

. Even Kim Davis, the elected official, could have assigned the duty of issuing marriage licenses to qualified applicants to one of her 6 deputy clerks. Instead, she instituted an unconstitutional official policy that gives supremacy to her own personal religious beliefs.

And that, right there, is where even a semblance of 'religious freedom' just disintegrates. She has no only refused to issue the licenses, she's forbidden anyone else in her office from doing so. She's imposing her religious beliefs on unwilling people using the power of the State.

Twice.

Change is hard to swallow for some. Just look at the posters on this board with everything from the necessity of the wot to gay marriage.
We are literally being governed by a bunch of children. There are issues worthy of not giving an inch of your ground.....this is not one of them.
Americans are a bunch of ******* children, hence the problem...
No, the problem is snotty Liberals who think they know soooo much better than the American People, about how to run things.

Well, you're sure to get another turn at-bat sometime soon, but the current turn-at-bat is just about played out.

After January 20, 2017... Fun TIme is over for a while... back down to the Minors for you, for a while, to cool your heels, while the rest of the country begins to un-tangle some of your mistakes and arrogant and unilateral social engineering abortions.
Americans are a bunch of ******* children, hence the problem...
Back to your Liberal hidey-hole, after January 20, 2017, mine good colleague...

Excellent.

The Supreme Court was wrong to land on the side of sexual deviants and perverts (homosexuals).

The People will fix that.

Sure... you just keep leaning on those poll-results...

The legitimizing and mainstream of sexual deviancy and perversion is wrong... and saying so... and opposing that aberration... does not constitute bigotry.

As you-and-yours will grow to learn as the newness of your recent legal wins wears off.

You already agreed we arent discussing Muslims.
On point, refusing to bow to a tyrannical unjust regime is patriotism. The clerk deserves a medal.

So you would oppose a Muslim that refused to do their job, but support a Christian not doing theirs. I knew that. You're an anti gay bigot.
We arent discusssing Muslims. WHy do you insist on bringing it up if we've already disposed of that issue?
I support people opposing unconstitiutional infrignements on their liberty, whatever they may be. You are a totalitarian statist. We get that.

Except that's not what she's doing. She's intentionally not doing the job she swore an oath to do. She should be fired...just like the Muslim that doesn't issue marriage licenses to infidels.
Wrong. She is issuing marriage licenses. To straight couples. Which is what she was hired to do.
She was hired to issue marriage licenses to those legally allowed to marry.
That Jesus-freak ***** needs to be fired, period. She can go clean toilets for a church instead.

Get over it ! The court has spoken and that won't wear off. You're entitled to believe whatever about "deviance" but the law is the law and the vast majority of Americans accept and support that. If you insist on being on the wrong side of history, it's no body's problem but your own. The day is not far off, when those who oppose marriage equality, will be viewed- by the vast majority of people- with the same scorn and contempt as racial bigots are now .

I doubt that you read the Obergefell decision. Why don't you do that and then get back to us and explain exactly -in terms of constitutional law- it is wrong. The people will fix it.? How exactly? You're dreaming.

Yes Rabbi, we know you support only bigoted Christians, but think a Muslim should be fired if they don't do their jobs. We get it.
Your last sentence is the biggest lie told on this board ever.

...Yea which one of your clowns do you think will be president. ?
Who knows? But we are about to see a Republican 3-way win in November 2016... House, Senate and White House. You've had your turn. Step aside.
Democrats have lost 9000 seats since 2009 net. They will lose dramatically in 2016.
Democrat sorely fucked up this country with Obamacare, Dodd Frank, higher taxes, more regulation, and culture wars.
The GOP will have to step up to restore America's greatness. Fortunately there is ample precedent here.

Nothing in the link says anything close to what you said, hence the request for another link.

What is it you don't think the OP said? That her office is refusing to issue licenses? That's what the whole thread is about!

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis said Monday that her Christian beliefs make it impossible for her to give marriage licenses to gay men or lesbians seeking to marry a member of the same sex. Rather than face claims of discrimination, Davis said, her office in Morehead is refusing marriage licenses to all couples until further notice.

So Cruz was talking about TX County Clerks and you're talking about KY County Clerks, the following is what the op said.

From the link in the op: (my bold) On Saturday, the 2016 Republican presidential candidate said he “absolutely” believes that his state’s country clerks should deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples if they have a religious objection, in an interview with The Texas Tribune.

He lost...TX clerks are doing their jobs despite what the lawless Cruz told them to do.

A few KY clerks are willfully disobeying the law.

You support illegals, you support your dear leaders executive samnesty and have the gall to call Cruz, expressing an opinion, lawless. Isn't that just a tad bit hypocritical?

I support changing the law, not breaking it. Cruz supports breaking it.

Evidently you don't, as I posted early in the thread, there is no law in TX requiring county clerks to abandon their religious beliefs to issue SSM licenses. The AG said folks can go to a different clerk, simple isn't it.

It's a Class A misdemeanor in Kentucky — first-degree official misconduct — if "a public servant ... refrains from performing a duty imposed upon him by law or clearly inherent in the nature of his office."

In Kentucky, misdemeanors are crimes that are punishable by up to 12 months in county or local jail.

No, they can't "go to a different clerk" and yes they must issue the licenses. You need to catch up with current events.

In Nazi Germany it was a crime to do business with Jews.
