Teacher Arrested After Video Showing Her Hitting, Mocking Student is Posted to Social Media

TEXAS -- A high school teacher in east Texas was arrested Friday after a video surfaced on Twitter that appears to show her striking a student.

According to WFAA, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputies confirmed that Mary Hastings, a teacher at Ozen High School was arrested on an assault charge.

Beaumont ISD released a statement saying the conduct was substantiated by video viewed by police and administrators.

The video, which was posted to Twitter on Friday, appears to show Hastings repeatedly slapping a student in the back of the head then mocking him. She also calls the student an "idiot ass" in the video.

The teacher was immediately removed from the classroom and placed on administrative leave pending action on her contract, according to the statement.

The teacher should have license and or certificate revoked and not allowed into the classroom environment ever again.

The student must be arrested for public disorderly conduct and the sentence maxed out.

Did you hear that kid? The teacher was just having a bad day and the kids were having a bad day.

Kids can be as rude and obnoxious as they like...........teachers are not allowed. Ever. I think that rule sucks but there it is.
