A Supreme Court ruling today? lol!
It ruled on it back in June, the ruling is a state law
- Texas law (HB 1181): A state-level rule requiring age verification for porn websites if minors could access them.
- Court’s take: The majority said Texas has a legitimate state interest in protecting minors, and because adults can still access the material (just with ID checks), it doesn’t “completely ban” adult speech. They applied intermediate scrutiny instead of strict scrutiny.
- Result: Upheld — states can regulate access within their borders.
So it applies in Texas but in 1998 Congress passed an even more restrictive bill that required much harsher restrictions but the conservative court ruled it was to restrictive and there were other work around.
The June ruling was less restrictive and a state has a right to protect their youth. In all 50 states, it is illegal for a minor, to enter an adult bookstore, strip club or any other adult venue and Proof of age must be given.
Whether the laptop story, the showering story or the lab story were truthful or not, the government has no right to suppress free speech. Biden lied and said you get the shot you won’t get Covid, a lie, you get the shot you can’t spread Covid, a lie, I am cognizant, a lie. Should the media all suppressed all of his lies? Of course not.
We as a people have a right to express our opinions, right or wrong and I would have no issues with this site, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok or anyother media deciding what they allow for people to post, what I object to is the government interfering or pressuring the media to remove or restrict content.
