TARIFFS: Walmart's CFO signals that price hikes may be coming because of Donald Trump's tariffs.

View attachment 1043945

They can do as they please, but to pre-emptively blame Trump is interesting. They make decisions, they are notorious for squeezing vendors to cut their prices, so Wal Mart should do the same against Chinese vendors post-tariff increase. They have been making millions there, time to cut that down.

Perhaps Trump can suggest that the tax cuts that he fought for will be applied to all corporations except those for which the primary merchandise is imported from China, based on some percentage. Wal Mart enjoys a MASSIVE tax cut from the amount they paid in 2016 before Trump was elected.

So...

Trump is the one threatening tariffs. He will deserve all the blame if he does this. The problem is that China is the only place to go for these products.

No you cannot use the tax code to punish individuals or companies because you disagree with them.

Yep, this is what the Trump supporters voted for. Now we all have to suffer the consequences of higher prices. What do you think?

WashingtonCNN —
The Biden administration said Friday that it has finalized tariff hikes on certain Chinese-made products that the president first announced in May.

The tariff rate will go up to 100% on electric vehicles, to 50% on solar cells and to 25% on electrical vehicle batteries, critical minerals, steel, aluminum, face masks and ship-to-shore cranes beginning September 27, according to the US Trade Representative’s Office.

Tariff hikes on other products, including semiconductor chips, are set to take effect over the next two years

The OP.is an idiot.
Strategic tariffs vs ACROSS THE BOARD TARIFFS ON EVERYTHING which is Trump's new plan..

What do you think tariffs are supposed to do?

They are designed to make products made overseas cost more so that more manufacturing will be done in the USA.

CHINESE SHIT WILL COST MORE AND BE LESS DESIRABLE THAN AMERICAN SHIT.

We are trying to bring manufacturing back to the US. We barely make anything other than military weapons anymore.

A tariff is a type of tax levied by a country on an imported good at the border. Tariffs have historically been a tool for governments to collect revenues, but they are also a way for governments to try to protect domestic producers. As a protectionist tool, a tariff increases the prices of imports. Due to that, consumers would choose to buy relatively less expensive domestic goods instead.

Will whi y ceos bark and whine and cry when workers demand MUCH higher wages? Cuz that is going to happen.

Of course American workers require higher wages than China….or Congo.

Average salary for a manufacturing worker in China is $15,000…roughly $7.50 per hour.

Why have food prices gone up?

Kind of funny to complain about high prices now when high prices you didn't complain about sank the Harris campaign.

Democrats = subhuman perverted freaks
your insults will not help your bills.

Having said that, there are very strong arguments to be made that we should not be trading with China regardless given their nationalistic Fascist* state

*Yes actual classical definition of fascist.

I remain amazed that no one has talked Trump out of this. He is absolutely ignorant about macroeconomics.

This is another example of how dangerous a strongman situation is. Everyone is afraid to tell him the truth.
Precisely. D-day was a success. Sure, the boldness is inarguable, the planning, extraordinary, the dedication and bravery of the men, never duplicated. But we succeeded because of one simple thing. The Germans were afraid to wake up their God, Hitler, afraid to activate the Panzer divisions that could have stopped that invasion in its tracks.

That is where we are today with Trump. I mean maybe the Senate will hold him accountable, but I highly doubt it. They are so scared of pushback if they buck him. Thom Tillis, my senator, might be a prime example. He does push back, he has pushed back, and today an Op-ed was released. He is up for reelection in 2026 and he is probably toast. Won't survive a primary challenge, probably lose to Mark Robinson who was routed in the governor's election, mostly because he is crazier than a shithouse rat, but he bows to the almighty Trump.

Federalist paper 51, written by Madison. It clearly warns of this shit. And Hamilton, he did as well in additional correspondence. Maybe the first thing we need to do is require incoming members of Congress, and the Senate, to read all the Federalist papers, and write an essay on each one. I am willing to bet the vast majority have never read a single one.

Take the most recent news. Dr. Oz to head up the CMS. He wants to completely privatize Medicare, and supports a 20% Payroll tax to make it happen. Everyone goes to Medicare Advantage, and I am here to tell you, Medicare Advantage SUCKS. Slow pay or no pay, rural hospitals are quickly going out of business due to it. Networks, pre-approval, it is a terrible problem. The United States has the best health care system in the world, if you are healthy and don't need it. But everyone is eventually going to need it, don't kid yourself.

You need to seriously examine what you are buying. Chips? A foolish purchase. Life saver gummies, WTF? Pepperidge Farm cookies, you not have an oven?

Last night, pork tenderloin, $1.99 a pound, on sale. Today, Irish stew made with American Wagyu chuck, $7.99 a pound. Tomorrow, shrimp alfredo, fresh Carolina shrimp, two days out of the water, never frozen, $13.99 a pound. With homemade pasta and Alfredo sauce. Learn to damn cook and bake.

I don't get it. I don't mow my lawn. I pay someone to do it. The reason is simple, my time is worth more than I pay him and the cost of buying a lawnmower, buying the gas, and loss of time, is more than it cost me to pay him. Get a good cheaper than we can produce it, well hell yeah, jump all over it.

i think they'll whine, piss & moan & will not believe that donny stuck it to them. i will have not one care about 'em when that time comes.
Nope, somehow some way it will be a democrats fault. How about Nancy Pelosi!
MAGA

Buy American and it won't effect you at all.

Funny how democrats, after giving us 9% inflation, suddenly care about rising prices. Would have been nice if you'd have cared in 2021 you fucking pile of dog shit democrats.

The one thing that might hold him back a bit is the fact that the GQP's majorities are not insurmountable. On one hand, elections have consequences. But on the other, the country needs a few Republicans who will refuse to destroy everything and (try to) build it back up later. I'd like to say I'm hopeful, but....

If we go to full Medicare Advantage (I was brought in as the "personal financial guy in the room" for a large MA insurer when they put these plans together in my state), they will have to restructure their provider agreements, top to bottom. And they'll have to firm up networks, particularly in rural areas. That's not impossible, but something tells me this "plan" doesn't include the costs of doing that. A 20% (total, I assume) payroll tax sounds a little random. And there are ways to age-band and ladder benefits & costs that I'll bet they haven't thought of.

The 20% Payroll tax is not random, Oz has floated that, half paid by the employer. Obviously, the man has never had to hit a labor budget. Can you imagine? First. employees take a ten percent cut in pay. They are not going to be happy. But worse, employers are looking an additional ten percent increase in the cost of labor. That ain't going to happen, it is a pipe dream.

Yeah, that's tough to see.

There are ways to do this efficiently, but that's not going to happen.
