TARIFFS: Walmart's CFO signals that price hikes may be coming because of Donald Trump's tariffs.

What I do know is during the Trump years with tariffs, inflation was very low along with interest rates. Biden lifted tariffs and what happened? 10% inflation and interest rates. Trump isn't stupid about this. You can be sure other countries will do business with us if they want our protection. He also will strengthen farmers in America as well. He keeps his campaign promises. I get what you are trying to say. You have to realize Trump has already had success with tariffs and inflation stayed low. How did he do that? Not listening to Democrats.
Show me one tariff Biden lifted or STFU.

Yep, this is what the Trump supporters voted for. Now we all have to suffer the consequences of higher prices. What do you think?

I think globalists are insane to depend on our most dangerous adversary communist china for our basic needs

Make it in America or Thailand or Vietnam

Anywhere but china or mexico

If not we are headed for big trouble

why would Walmart have to raise prices? They aren't being charged.

the ones with China. But he kept others, so why didn't Walmart raise prices? I'd call that price gouging. DoH!

If you might be in the market for an electric blanket, run and get one now. An umbrella with a telescopic staff, I might actually horde them up and create an online store once the tariffs go into effect. Same holds true for video game consoles, Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo. Cooking appliances made from steel, toasters. And here is a big one, baby strollers. No shit, nothing like increasing the cost for young parents. All of the above, over ninety percent of our imports come from China. NINETY PERCENT.

90 percent? I thought Mexico was the biggest trading partner.

In most cases tariffs will raise prices to US consumers in the short run

But who says a product cant be made in Vietnam for as little or even less than it costs from china or mexico?

Dont you think that's too much?

I do

The less we buy from china the better

That is just delusional. It really is. I will admit, China is not in a good place right now, they got some real economic problems. Labor costs are cheaper in Thailand and Vietnam, and to be blunt, that was part of the damper on Trumps first tariffs. Televisions are so damn cheap because now, well they are made in Mexico. Again, cheaper labor. And flippin Africa is just beginning to be touched. The problem here is that Trump wants to implement tariffs across the board.

Honestly, we have known that tariffs were, well stupid, for more than two thousand years. Xenophon wrote about it. If a country can produce a good cheaper, and transport it here cheaper, than we can. Well boy howdy, send it on. If that country allows their workers to be paid, what, three dollars a day, warehouses them like convicts and provides no labor protections. Doesn't give two shits about pollution, spewing toxic fumes in the air and placing cancer causes waste in open landfills, then that is their problem, not ours.

I mean you guys have always talked about winners and losers. The government picking winners and losers. What the fawk do you think tariffs do? The winners, bloated manufacturers that overpay their workers. The losers, hard working farmers that provide food, to not only us, but the rest of the world. There will be retaliatory tariffs from those other nations. In Trump's first term, he paid out billions to soybean farmers who saw the retaliatory tariffs decimate their exports. Will he do it again, hell no, why would he? And just like we did in Trump's first term, place tariffs on Chinese goods, fine, we get them from Thailand, Mexico, Vietnam. Well China will get their soybeans from Brazil and Argentina. You guys really don't think this through.

Here's the problem and it's nearly invisible to the common man. By accepting the cheaper product and displacing home grown you are subtly importing the lower standard of living also .

Of course the difference is that one is immediate gratification ( works every time ) the other is like a starfish on a clam shell.

I remain amazed that no one has talked Trump out of this. He is absolutely ignorant about macroeconomics.

he bankrupted a casino for fuck's sake. a biz'nez designed so the house always wins in the end.

This is another example of how dangerous a strongman situation is. Everyone is afraid to tell him the truth.

afraid or drunk on koolaide. either way, america is going down in flames.

What's the difference? The other administration promised to hike taxes for the roof so to the common man it's all the same.

They don't get this. In their wee little minds, foreign and us import corporations will raise prices when faced with higher tariffs but will just absorb the cost of higher corporate taxes. They aren't too bright.

they won't absorb it - they will pass it along to the consumer.

In both cases, right? So did you have a problem with Harris' proposed across the board corporate tax hike?

Yeah you could get to Walmart for about a buck a gallon for gas and you might have to pay more for Chinese made crap. Is that a problem for Native Americans?

that tax hike would have been 28% ... eisenhower's rate was 90% & kennedy's was 70% i believe. donny wants to extend his 2017 cut due to expire in 2025. how is THAT gonna get paid for?
