Taliban five and Afghanistan

This whole thread about the so called Taliban 5 making a difference is silly.

Afghanistan is going to fall back into the hands of the Taliban once the U.S. pulls out.......with or without these 5 individuals. ...

Obama has just facilitated a faster takeover. Knowingly. Once it became known that Obama and Qatar were working together to set up a Taliban Embassy and have "negotiations" without Karzai, the writing was on the wall that he was going to hand over the country to the Taliban.

ETA: He has never liked Karzai. I'm trying to remember who he sent over to be a campaign advisor to Karzai's opponent in the last election.

Obama has been blatant not only in his dislike of Karzai but in his wish to remove him from power.
Afghanistan is 90% Sunni and 10% Shia.

When the U.S. invaded it set up the minority Shia to rule the country.

Karzai, the government, the police, and the Afghan military are almost exclusively Shia.

The majority Sunni's hate being ruled by the Shia and will be in open revolt once the U.S. pulls out. ..

was the Taliban's barbarism legendary before we occupied Afghanistan?.

Most certainly. Oh most certainly.

Meanwhile, militant Islamic extremists attacked the Karachi, Pakistan airport, without those very important "five".

These are key Taliban leaders. Anyone can order a suicide bombing .That's a no brainer.

Fazi is much like Taliban equivalent of Rommel. Not as talented of course. But still great tactical strategist who is the jewel in the crown of the Taliban.

He was instrumental in the complete takeover and subjugation of the Afghan people. Ruthless. Vicious. Merciless.

Mock their importance all you want. Knock yourself out.

I have no problem with Sunni or Shia rule. ETA: for the most part My issue is with the Taliban and their method of *cough* governing.

Fazi is the perfect example of a radical Islamist who is hell bent for leather to destroy anything and anyone in his path.

Scorched earth takes on a whole new meaning with him. All he knows is destruction and inflicting pain and terror.

"Thanks Mr. President" will not be spoken by Afghan civilians for his release of Fazi. They are frightened and dismayed.

Taliban forces led by Mohammed Fazl swept through this village on the Shomali plain north of Kabul in 1999 in a scorched-earth offensive that prompted some 300,000 people to flee for their lives. (snip)

The villages of Shomali were once the orchard of central Afghanistan, and the plain's carefully tended vineyards were famous for their grapes.

When the Taliban seized control of this area from their Northern Alliance rivals in 1999, they systematically demolished entire villages, blowing up houses, burning fields and seeding the land with mines, according to two comprehensive studies of war crimes and atrocities during wars in Afghanistan and human rights reports. Mr. Fazl played a major role in the destruction.

and it's your belief that afghanistan was going to avoid the taliban, or taliban influences, in its government before the prisoner exchange but now that balance has been shifted and the taliban will rule completely?

Why even capture a terrorist if they are going to be released by liberals years later....

The dead and wounded from the operations to capture those 5 Taliban leaders should be all over the news this next month.

Tell us how and when those five were captured...and how many died doing it.

Far more Afghan people are pro Taliban than against them. ..

Not according to the last election. But now that Obama has given back key leaders to the bastards, odds are there will be much bloodshed and chaos and the Taliban will ruthlessly seize power.

They don't believe in government. They only believe in rule by force. Interesting. Obama let loose the Taliban Dream Team.

I pity the Afghan people.

And, despite the dangers they faced at polling stations, nearly 60 percent of the 12 million people eligible to vote turned out, a measure of the determination for a say in their country's first-ever democratic transfer of power, as President Hamid Karzai prepares to stand down after 12 years in power.

"This is how people vote to say death to the Taliban," said one Afghan on Twitter, posting a photograph that showed his friends holding up one finger - stained with ink to show they had voted - in a gesture of defiance.

and all of that will just go to hell now that 5 people have been released from prison, right? i mean what can 7.2 million people do in the face of 5 former prisoners who have been out of action for over a decade?

When the recently released Taliban five get back to Afghanistan and rejoin the fight something almost everyone left and right believes will happen what do you think the results will be for Afghanistan, the region, and the western world?

Yo black,

the warmongers and American Likudnicks must stop subsidizing the Palestinian Holocaust and the Jewish State.

It's that simple.

Wow that has nothing what so ever to do with my OP but thanks for sharing.

Well the game is over Spurs lost so I think I will lighten the mood a bit.

Everyone seems to be wondering why Muslim terrorists are so quick to commit suicide.
Lets have a look at the evidence:
- No Christmas
- No television
- No nude women
- No football
- No pork chops
- No hot dogs
- No burgers
- No beer
- No bacon
- Rags for clothes
- Towels for hats
- Constant wailing from some idiot in a tower
- More than one wife
More than one mother in law
- You can't shave
- Your wife can't shave
- You can't wash off the smell of donkey
- You wipe your ass with your hand
- You cook over burning camel shit
- Your wife is picked by someone else for you
- and your wife smells worse than your donkey
Then they tell you that "when you die, it all gets better"??
Well no shit Sherlock!.... It's not like it could get much worse!

The general rule is you don't negotiate with terrorists, when you do they win. Also, prior to considering the release of any Taliban prisoner, the law requires notification of congress, no exception, which was not done here.

After glancing at the pictures of the Taliban 5, I don't see how anyone can even consider releasing them. They are hardened terrorists.
