i don't know that afghanistan will always be friendly towards the united states, but i do think that a complete takeover is unlikely. too much damage to them, too many involved people now coupled with the ability of the government to fight off any military attacks by the taliban. i just don't see it happening.

Dumbfuck....the reason why Obama has said he wants to keep 9,800 US military in Afghanistan is to prevent the disaster he made with Iraq pulling all combat forces out.

It remains to be seen if the Taliban can take over Afghanistan again with 9,800 US military and other NATO forces still there, but Obama helped the Taliban by giving them back 5 leaders.

the 9800 us military personnel won't be the deciding factor. it'll be the 350,000 afghan military and police forces that will make the difference between a taliban resurgence or governmental stability.

either way, that outcome will not be decided by 5 individuals that have been in prison for over a decade.

Obama has just facilitated a faster takeover. Knowingly. Once it became known that Obama and Qatar were working together to set up a Taliban Embassy and have "negotiations" without Karzai, the writing was on the wall that he was going to hand over the country to the Taliban.

ETA: He has never liked Karzai. I'm trying to remember who he sent over to be a campaign advisor to Karzai's opponent in the last election.

Obama has been blatant not only in his dislike of Karzai but in his wish to remove him from power.
