I agree with the consensus opinion voiced in the media about yesterday's election that the American voter is telling Washington that affordability and cost of living is a huge and intolerable problem and they are going to vote for the political party that offers the best relief in this area and at the present time it's the Democrats that hold this position the Republicans are failing on this issue! One specific lesson I think the Republicans and for that matter the Democrats should take from this election is that this affordability issue touches on a deeper problem for America that our government is dysfunctional it doesn't solve practical problems for the American people it works for Special Interests during the Biden Administration the public was clamoring about affordably and Biden was going on his environmental crusade driving up prices and President Trump was elected to fix the affordability problem and what does the Trump administration do they go on a tariff crusade to raise manufacturing in America to the level it should be and protect it (which is the government doing its duty) but they are not strategic about it price increase consequences are an after-thought; and rank and file members of Congress go along with their President whatever their Party like their sheep! What the country needs is members of Congress that listen to all the voters in their district not just their base we need members of Congress concerned about general elections and being accountable to all the voters in their district not essentially solely focused on their primary election! The only way to achieve this is to stop gerrymandering voting districts, having state leaders draw convoluted voting districts that are tantamount to politicians picking their voters as opposed to what it should be voters picking their politicians! To this end the country needs to change the U.S. Constitution to mandate that voting districts be drawn by algorithm where essentially the criteria the algorithm uses is trying to make the North, South, East West borders of the district as equidistant as possible. The Amendment should allow the respective state legislature to have minimal input in the drawing district process in so far as identifying a common interests criteria in defining a district that being should the center of the district be the center of the largest cities in the state or the center of mass based on where citizens live within a state! The system has to take politics out of the drawing of voting districts or the American people are going to continue to see an abundance of extremist politicians on both sides of the political spectrum in Washington where their vision for American is vast vastly different and both visions bring humongous and alarming problems. It can be done the American people will compellingly support this move the American people are smart enough to know that this game political parties play with gerrymandering is wrong this is evidenced by Californians widespread support of Proposition 50 which will allow short term gerrymandering of voting districts in California to counter balance the recent Republican gerrymandering of voting districts in Texas, Missouri and North Carolina - the American people are a good and smart people they crave fairness which this system would provide!

A couple other observations about yesterday's races; in Zohran Mamdani's (the Mayor-Elect in New York) acceptance speech last night there was a lot of criticism even amongst establishment Democrats that it was too passionate his delivery was too loud he should have been more sensitive and struck a more unifying tone people are afraid about Zohran so he should have been trying to allay their fears! This writer is politically center-right so I am not a fan of Mr. Mamdani at all but he gave an appropriate and spot on speech for what he is about and what he will do. His speech made clear that he is going to deliver on his socialist agenda and his critics are wrong they say he will need Albany to pass laws authorizing him to do these socialist things he wants to do and he won't get it. These critics misread the times he'll get it because the Democrat Pary has moved in the socialist direction (Republicans when government continually fails people they turn to practical alternatives which is now socialism) look at all the Democrat leaders that supported Mamdani the Governor of New York, the House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, these people will not abandon him when he tries to enact his major campaign agenda. O I think there will be tweaks in the plan instead of free public transit it will be free for low wage workers, seniors and the disabled but significantly more money will be put for more transit cops and refurbished stations to make the system feel safe, instead of free child care there will be hefty child care vouchers that New Yorkers with children can use and ordinary new Yorkers will consider it outstanding relief and significant mental health staff will be provided to the police department to deal with law enforcement situations involving mental health, etc.! The take away for Republicans from this is that New York will increase taxes or the wealthy and big business to pay for these programs and this is what the future holds for the nation; Republican policies to grow the economy by just lowering taxes and forget about fair taxation resulting in a painful standard of living for too many Americans is extremely bad policy and an abject failure and needs to change if Republicans want to be a successful party!

President Trump is wrong advocating doing away with the filibuster in the Senate which requires sixty votes in the Senate to move bills forward to a passage vote whose purpose is to stop wide swings in America law and the devastating effect such instability would bring. President Trump is very astute to be predicting the Democrats will do it once they get in control of the White House and both chambers of Congress because there is a compelling amount of evidence indicating so. But that doesn't make it right that the Republicans do it now so they can ram through a bunch of bills implementing their vision for America making it harder to change because once the filibuster is eliminated a ticking time bomb will be triggered that will absolutely with one hundred percent certainty result in America being permanently split in two, the permanent end of America. Because eventually the Democrats will get back in full power in Washington and with no filibuster protection they will put into law a full socialist and left agenda: Medicare-for-all, free college, free childcare, plentiful supply of psychologists and tutors in schools, overturning the constitutional right to possess a gun, legalized abortion up to six months across the nation, for largely all people that emigrate to America without a visa a path to full citizenship. Ruby red states won't tolerate back to the founding of America states were leery of the federal government dominating their states and society this socialist and left society will be too much for them to bear! The truth of the matter is the Senate filibuster is not the problem with our Democracy it is the system that sends elected officials to Washington that don't put the interests and including the long-term interest of the America people first; America needs term limits, drawing voting districts by algorithms not gerrymandering and having campaign finance laws that stops the wealthy from controlling and undue influencing elected officials in Washington. President Trump also doesn't consider that leaders in the Republican and Democrat Party may choose partial wisdom and virtue and instead of completely eliminating the filibuster may reduce the threshold to only fifty-five Senators needed to end a filibuster, but a bipartisan agreement would need to be reached for this to hold!

President Trump needs to garnish the lesson from yesterday's election outcome that he needs to compromise with Democrats the strategy of imposing Trump's will on the nation is a loser strategy and he needs to get some good and wise negotiators and listen to them when doing this vital work. President Trump is not acting like a responsible and prudent leader when he says things like he said today at the Republican Senators breakfast. President Trump said at this event that when he was President during his first term there was only eight million Americans in the SNAP (Food Aid) program and that President Biden and the Democrats with their Covid Aid bills dramatically expanded the SNAP program basically giving it to anyone that wanted the government assistance. That is so false it is really beyond the pail in 2019 the last full fiscal year of President Trump's first term there was at least thirty-five (35) million Americans in the SNAP program today there is forty-two (42) million Americans in the SNAP program, the Democrats haven't acted like Santa Claus here! The American people want and need their leaders in Washington to act with integrity otherwise their government won't operate well and fully meet their needs which is their obligation!

He is not the Captain ( Mayor of one of the Twin Cities ) after all

Nope. You don't cave on a bill that's already been passed into law. You don't negotiate on extending the COVID 0bamacare subsidies You already won that debate. The GOP shouldn't compromise at all. Doing so would not be portrayed as being noble; it would be shown as weakness. Trump is right. You bring on the nuke option. Then there is nothing to negotiate. You open the government. They should have done this earlier.

Democrats in Mississippi Break the G.O.P.’s State House Supermajority

Mississippi Democrats won two closely watched special elections for State Senate on Tuesday, according to unofficial results and Republican and Democratic officials, breaking the Republican supermajority and bringing more Black voices to Jackson, the state capital.

The special elections — which were held in an off year, when no statewide races were on the ballot — were forced by court-ordered redistricting to give Black voters more representation in state government.

The Democrats’ gains may barely make a difference in their power, since Republicans control the governor’s office and both chambers of the legislature. Still, they might boost the party’s efforts to rebuild in the South at a time when the Supreme Court seems poised to roll back a key provision of the Voting Rights Act that allows lawmakers to use race as a factor in drawing voting maps, creating districts where racial and ethnic minorities are a voting majority.

They didn't win a lot.

Will Trump and his Republican sycophants listen OP?

I don't think so, and frankly, I hope they don't.

The midterms are coming.

We do not live in that era anymore. We live in an era where the dollar is not as strong in the world, and we suck from the tits of other nations to survive with products. We print up massive quantities of fiat currency to keep our living standards. Way more than the GDP. So, it goes into different things. Housing is one of them. However, like anything else after a certain amount of time or decades, people at a higher percentage cannot afford to purchase homes as the game gets mature.

I agree with Corbin Trent. The Dems did very well overall, but both Parties simply don't get it yet. We need to start making and building our own products again.. together. We're done until that becomes our main focus.

I agree with the consensus opinion voiced in the media about yesterday's election that the American voter is telling Washington that affordability and cost of living is a huge and intolerable problem...
Blue states elected Democrats.
What's this tell us about Republicans / Trump?
Nothing.

What's this tell us about people like you?
You are --desperate-- for good news and this is the best you can find.

The voters said the issue most was "High Prices". Now we know that Democrats have owned New Jersey, New Your and NYC and their policies have driven up costs bigly. Only dumbasses would continue the status quo, and they can be miserable when prices go even higher.

Democrats can go to hell, then once they arrive repeatedly go F themselves to infinity. They clearly have not got the message, we hate their guts!
Be sure to tell St. Peter his pearly gates are too woke when you get there.

Democrats won in deep blue states and cities.

That doesn't tell the government jack shit other than more moderates and conservatives have fled the Communists for a better life.

Holy crap! I thought Stephen King was wordy...

You could have stuck with "Republicans didn't win" and said almost as much.

You think God is happy with Democrat scum? God has been punishing Democrats for some time now.
Yes because winning everything yesterday was a curse straight out of the prosperity gospel for them.

Dems won shit and piss fool. Go hide under your bed, a permanent hated minority party that's circling the drain with communist candidates. :auiqs.jpg:

You only have one candidate. He's ancient, orange, and term limited. There are worse things to be than a party with multiple choices.

Don't worry yourself about it, we have 500 more Trumps waiting in the wings to CRUSH Democrats like a bug.

These were state and local elections, which have little or nothing to do with national politics. [/thread]
