Trump drew attention to the Nordic nation recently, stating at a rally that the country is “having problems like they never thought possible” as a result of mass migration.

A couple of things. First, while it may be indicative of the whole country, this article is almost entirely about one Swedish city, Uppsala. Second, people didn't get upset at Trump for saying crime is up in Sweden, they got upset because he said something had happened the night before his speech. Because of the context, with mentions of Brussels, Nice, and Paris, all places where relatively well-known terror attacks have taken place, people thought Trump was talking about a terrorist attack in Sweden.

Nice try........you took part of what he actually said instead of the entire quote....

That is what he said...he never a terrorist attack...but nice lie...

I'm not sure where you get the idea one of his pauses was after "last night." Besides, even were that true, would that indicate something had happened the night before in Germany?

This may have been a case of Trump simply miscommunicating. However, since he went on to mention cities which have experienced relatively well known terror attacks, the impression that he was saying Sweden experienced a terror attack the night before was a fairly reasonable one. When you add that to the Bowling Green massacre comments from Conway, one might wonder why the administration isn't more careful when discussing terrorism.

I posted a video of that portion of his speech in my next post. He said, "You look at what's happening in Germany....you look at what's happening last night in Sweden......Sweden.....who would believe this? Sweden. They took in large numbers, they're having problems like they never thought possible. You look at what's happening in Brussels. You look at what's happening all over the world. Take a look at Nice. Take a look at Paris."

Because Trump specified "last night" when he mentioned Sweden, it indicates some specific event. Yes, he clarified the next day that he didn't mean a specific event.....but until that clarification, it seemed as though he did. Nothing happened the night before in Sweden, instead the night before he had seen a report about Sweden.

It also wasn't just "the Democrat press" that thought he was talking about a terror attack. Swedish officials wondered what attack Trump was talking about after the comments, as did many individuals around the country. It was very similar to the Bowling Green Massacre comments by Conway. Perhaps it was just a miscommunication, but it was a bad one.

Trump's quote certainly does not show that Sweden wasn't included as a specific attack. He absolutely did mention something specific happening in Sweden, and the context of the comments makes a terror attack by far the most likely thing for him to have meant. Yes, he clarified that he didn't mean that the next day. I'm not arguing anything else is true. I'm just pointing out that when he made the comments, it very much did sound as though he were saying an attack had occurred in Sweden, related to immigrants in that country, and likely an act of terrorism because of his references to Brussels, Nice, and Paris.
