Supreme Court extends pause on deportations under Alien Enemies Act in Texas

How long to get a legal visa of some sort?
Depends on what type of visa. The point is that as soon as an application has been accepted and the process begun, the applicant can remain - and even work - in the US until a decision has been reached.

Totally depends on home country and reason for visa.

Tourist from England? A few weeks after application..maybe sooner.

Student from Iraq...years..and years.

A scientist from India--working for Musk?

Coupla days max~

One more time: YOU DON'T HAVE TO APPLY FOR ASYLUM FIRST.

As you said....

CATO Institute report

Only about 3 percent of the people who have submitted green card applications will receive permanent status in the United States in fiscal year (FY) 2024. At the start of this fiscal year, approximately 34.7 million applications were pending—up from about 10 million in 1996. Legal immigration caps plus uncapped categories permit only about 1.1 million green cards for FY 2024, meaning that 97 percent of green card applicants will not receive one this year.

As you see...our borders are not nearly as 'open' as they might appear.

Imagine that was true.

AI Overview

Estimates suggest there are around 10.9 to 11.4 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. Some sources indicate a slightly higher figure, with the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) estimating 13.7 million unauthorized immigrants in mid-2023. These estimates are based on various methods and can vary between different organizations.

Good numbers.

Of course, not all of those entered illegally--a large number are visa overstays.

Were the Govt. to consider raising the number of Green cards issued..to those who are already working--your numbers would go down..considerably.

I know of Green Cards and wonder when in their native country, how long does it take just to get the first green card?
It's a pretty tedious process so I've been told by those who get them. Always a matter of several months--minimum of seven months I believe for some who quality--and generally a year or more for everybody else.

In my opinion those saying the estimates of 10 to 14 million undocumented people in the USA are insulting our intelligence. I am pretty darn sure the figure is somewhere between 20 and 40 million.

AI is against me and you. I think you are correct. It makes no sense what AI reports.
I only added it just to learn what AI reports.

The numbers I posted probably are really way off. It was generated by AI owned by Google. I believe Google is left wing.
The present government will not speed any thing up other than removing illegal aliens. Visa overstays are illegal aliens.

How many and tell me your reason for thinking they are legal?
Uhh...I have no reason for thinking they are legal..and I'm pretty sure I didn't state that.

As for overstays:

Yes a visa overstay is an illegal..and yes, they entered the US legally...on their valid visa.
I hope that clears up any confusion.

Who was confused? You agreed with me. Saying this. "Yes a visa overstay is an illegal"
