I hope you were being sarcastic because SS and medicare are not welfare programs. I get Social Security and Medicare, but have paid into it for ever single year since I was 19 until I retired. My S/O gets Veteran's benefits and also gets Veteran's disability from being in the Gulf War and having his ship coated with sarin gas that the government released over the ocean. They used to call it the Gulf War Syndrome, but changed the name. Anyhow, it was a presumptive that automatically got you VA disability. Except, it didn't....he had to jump through hundreds of hoops and see many doctors, both VA ones and ones he paid for out of pocket for to even be considered. He finally went to the local paper about it and within the week, was approved. He now helps other veterans trying to get their benefits.

Unemployment benefits help those who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. I know of someone who worked for a company who helped build houses back in the day when they were giving half million dollar mortgages to workers at McDonald's, and when the housing crash came about, the company went out of business. He got unemployment for the allotted time and was required to go to I think about 5 job interviews a week to keep drawing. It too, is not a welfare program.

SNAP feeds children who have no control over what their parents do.
