SR-71 bitchslaps F-18 driver

For speed, I'm on board with the Blackbird.

For brawn and meanness, the A-10.

It was pretty sweet when I was a kid to see a Blackbird up close at the Wright-Patterson Air Force museum. They have some iconic aircraft there like the Air Force One that Kennedy's body was flown in and LBJ was sworn in.

Some interesting facts on the SR-71.

The plane would grow up to a foot longer due to heat expansion from friction and the huge Pratt and Whitney engines.

The SR-71's fuel tanks leaked like a sieve while on the ground because they had to be designed to work at higher temps which expand to form a tight seal.

This required in air refueling after takeoff.

The J-58 turboramjet concept was pure genius well ahead of its time.
