I think it's a great idea. So did a whole lot of Mexicans in the 19th Century who wanted just a northern and southern California with capitols in Monte Rey and Los Angeles. Too bad they didn't manage to do it IMHO.
And make New York City and all the boroughs a separate state from the rest of New York.
