Speaker of the House gives history lesson to reporter.

Can't have freedom of religion without freedom from religion.

What if one of the muslim congresscritters was up there pushing for America to be more Muslim and promising to base legislation on that?

Wrong.

So you should be able to force people to not wear any religious articles in public?

We were founded as a secular nation. The founders were clear about it. This fact doesn't go away just because religious yahoos don't like it.

Actually only a secular federal government. Until the 14th amendment was interpreted to incorporate the 1st amendment onto the States, Individual States could have their own official religions as long as their own Constitutions allowed it.

So the founders were OK with States having official religions if they so wanted to.

Well somebody doesn't like the direction the thread has taken.

Quit trying to deflect and go find that corner.

Someone doesn't like getting called out on their religious bigotry.

And I'm a lapsed Catholic at best, so don't go to the usual "Sky pixie" insult favored by twats like you.

Where would you get the idea I supported anything like that?

YOu need to quit making shit up.

Well that's freedom "from" Religion.

Look at the shit over that cross in California. Atheist assholes being Atheist assholes.

A nation of people who all believe in the same ideals and customs wouldn't survive 5 minutes.

Where is that stated in the Constitution?
"done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the Independance of the United States of America the Twelfth In witness whereof We have hereunto subscribed our Names,"
