The good theory is, China lays the hammer on North Korea, and says..... South Korea is under our protection now, so shut it.

I can see this outcome. It is possible. And given North Korea has practically no friends at all in the world, other than China... they would have no choice but to tow the line.

The bad theory is.... China gives a wink and nod, and as soon as the US pulls out, North Korea rolls in the tanks, and we have a re-enactment of Vietnam.

I can see this outcome as well. It is very possible, given that China was directly responsible for propping up North Vietnam.

Economically, China would be an utter fool to allow the second. S.Kor is a huge market for Chinese goods, while N. Kor is a economic joke. China is making good money off the S.Koreans, and we have every reason to believe that having the North Koreans take over South Korea would be an economic disaster for the entire region.

And with China more Capitalist than ever, and seeing how North Korea has not followed their lead.... China would be economically retarded to allow the North Koreans to have their way with the South.

I doubt it. The North Koreans no longer have even the strength they had, during that war when they were backed by the Soviets. With as much help as the Chinese can give, I doubt the N.Koreans would engage in a war, unless China was completely backing a victory.

As things stand with the Democrats and Trump, I don't think Trump has the pull now, to intervene on S.Kor side.

So I think they'll just lose.

The only question is, is I know that S.Kor has been building their military power. I have no idea how much power that is though. Depending on the amount of hardware, and the training of their men, and the amount of fortifications they have... it is... at least in theory, possible they found fend off a North Korean advance.

In order for a swift or effective win over S.Kor, I think they would have to blockade the entire peninsula, and I doubt China has the ability, or desire to do that. I think doing that could trigger a 3rd world war.

I wager the only connection between the Chinese and S.Korea was through US intermediaries, given that the US has been handling defense of the country almost entirely on our own.

It could be that there are preparing for the worst case situation where the US pulls out, and then they have no communication to China, which could lead to a misunderstanding.
