Solar is the best overall energy source by far.

Good to see the anti nuclear brigade cheering the harnessing of solar power, you know, from that enormous nuclear reactor in space that we orbit.
You are crowing over a diffuse energy source that doesn't work for more than 1/2 the day when full sun and far less with cloudy days, doesn't work at all at night.

:cuckoo:

We are at a disadvantage in that our presidential cycles prevent real long-term planning. China, on the other hand, plans decades into the future. They are not only pushing hard with coal and nuclear power but every other form also. Wind, solar, hydropower. They displaced over a million people to build the Three Gorge Dam. Satellite photos have shown that it might be failing.

The Three Gorges Dam is the world's largest capacity hydroelectric power station with 34 generators: 32 main generators, each with a capacity of 700 MW, and two plant power generators, each with a capacity of 50 MW, making a total capacity of 22,500 MW.
We are hardly scratched the surface of renewable energy in this country, even the tides present great possibilities.

And that's not even counting the top secret Nikola Tesla vault.
We need to run cold fusion trials on the International Space Station, we only need a slight edge to make it work, and I believe Zero Gravity would give that edge. By us, I mean everyone on the planet. Once energy is free, humanity can finally grow up and leave their childhood behind once and for all. Maglev technology will do all the heavy lifting and transportation of people and goods, which will be necessary until substantial, transformative improvements in molecular synthesizers are developed.

Leave it to the Germans, they lead Europe and could lead the world. Hopefully the US is working with our Central and South American neighbors on similar projects.
Why would we want to cause the price of our energy to skyrocket. You know, as failed former President Barack Obama wanted to happen.

President Harris/Biden has allowed his bud President Putin to complete their oil line to Germany. Now Russia is in the position of holding Germany and much of Western Europe by their short curlies. Something President Trump was able to stop.

How Electricity Became a Luxury Good in Germany

Germany’s Energy Poverty

[...]

German consumers already pay the highest electricity prices in Europe. But because the government is failing to get the costs of its new energy policy under control, rising prices are already on the horizon. Electricity is becoming a luxury good in Germany, and one of the country’s most important future-oriented projects is acutely at risk.

[...]

In the near future, an average three-person household will spend about €90 a month for electricity. That’s about twice as much as in 2000.

Two-thirds of the price increase is due to new government fees, surcharges and taxes. But despite those price hikes, government pensions and social welfare payments have not been adjusted. As a result, every new fee becomes a threat to low-income consumers.

German electricity prices ‘among the highest in the world’

German consumers have to spend an enormous amount of money on electricity compared to other countries. This is shown by an analysis of 126 countries carried out by the comparison portal Verivox using purchasing power-adjusted data from the energy service Global Petrol Prices.

Stann, why would you wish misery on our citizens? Who will suffer the most with skyrocketing prices on electricity?

Fossil fuel boys hate solar.

Loving or hating solar power is irrelevant. The fact that it is impractical, expensive, and we have no serious way of storing the power for overcast weeks and at night is why we should use it only under ideal conditions.

I'm not aware of reading any post from anyone saying they hate solar. I think they're just tuned in to the fact that solar is expensive. In addition, when working out pay back period on solar panels on a house roof, choose a country like Scotland as opposed to California or Africa.

Some can afford the outlay cost and may live in better climates, but many don't.

Gas and oil will always have their place in our society, however the role they play will become less and less. They are not renewable sources of energy; their supply in this world is finite. We can no longer risk adversely affecting the planet by continuing to use them at the current rate or an increase rate, that would be self-destructive. Renewable sources must be utilized more and more. Energy will get cheaper in the future, instead of higher. Americans have always been very innovative people and we should be leadIng the world in this endeavor not sticking out heads in the sand. This change is necessary and may be costly att first but to continue on the same path would be more costly and detrimental to not only the US but the entire world.

Why did you not answer my question? For your convenience. Stann, why would you wish misery on our citizens? Who will suffer the most with skyrocketing prices on electricity? You know like Germany, the country you wish for us to emulate.

If you believe that energy will get cheaper in the future, instead of higher, you must either be a troll or a few fries short of a Happy Meal.

It is a fact that in order for our country remain the greatest in the world, we must have a plentiful supply of cheap energy. China has learned that fact and is working toward that goal at a fevered pitch. Under the administration of President Harris/Biden, we are going in the opposite direction. How is that great for our country?

How is that great for our country? Thank you, do you know what country leads the world in renewable energy projects ? China. they see the folly of their ways relying too much on coal and fossil other fossil fuels. They are trying to fix the problem. It's a long road but the whole world has to change, there will be costs and there will be great benefits from doing so. I am not a troll. since you keep promoting Big oil over environment I would think you are the one who is a plant from Big oil or have some interest in the industry. Even big oil is investing in renewable energy projects they don't want to be left out when the switch over occurs, the switchover has already begun it's not going to stop no matter what you or I think it's a necessary move, bottom line it's necessary I agree with little that Trump did, it was largely protective isolation tactics that did not address any of our most severe problems. With Biden we continue to make progress towards a sustainable future.
