And what caused it? The Housing Crash. And who allowed the Housing crash to happen, who encouraged irresponsible lending, who actually threatened LAW suits if money was not lent to people that could not afford those loans? Why it was the Democrats with Obama as a Lawyer making threats.

Which party opposed 3 times stricter controls on the Housing market and its lending policies? None other then the Democratic party lead by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. Frank even announced as late as the spring of 2008 that the Housing market was sound and secure and there was no need to worry about it.

The GOP didn't even have 'total control for years'... let ALONE CONSERVATIVES.

The GOP enjoyed simple majorities... and those majorities were sliverous; beyond that the ranks of the GOP were rife with Centrists (which is a word used to avoid using the word "LEFTISTS"...)

Add to that the GOPs determination to appease the left and give the DNC every benefit fo every doubt, often conceding to democrat demands regarding procedure... the GOP's 'control' was impotent at BEST.
