SS is for wage earners only, and their survivors/dependents, who have paid into the system.
Food Stamps are for low-income people only.
No they aren't.Most working people are financially independent. It's when they retire that money problems begin.
Point taken. However, there is a financial interdependence between the worker and the employer that should be considered. No they aren't.
Financial independence is being able to live off of your portfolio without having to trade your hours for dimes

Tell that to businesses that have closed for lack of replacement employees.Only in the aggregate. Any one employee is entirely replaceable

US Businesses Are Closing Because They Can't Find Anyone to Work. Here’s Why
For the last 10 years, Larry and Roxane Maggio ran a deli in New Jersey. Last month they closed their doors forever—“and not because business is bad.” “We just can’t find anyone to work,” Roxane Maggio told the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Maggios are not alone.fee.org
Whole high-paying industries are hurting for employees. The shortages run into the tens of thousands. That only happens to extremely small businesses that run on razor thin margins.
Really what are the promotional opportunities in a family owned deli?
None of them are going out of businessWhole high-paying industries are hurting for employees. The shortages run into the tens of thousands.
Knowing me I wouldn't have saved it. Same with most people. That's why SS is so needed still. Many people that earn big bucks don't save for their retirement. SS addresses this human weakness.
But they can't expand to take advantage of new business because of the lack of workers. Guess who fills that void...China.None of them are going out of business

Most people lack the discipline, or the means, to save for retirement. That's why SS was created. So what you are saying is that because you lack self-discipline and can't resist instant gratification in order to save for your future, young people now should be put to the yoke to finance your retirement.
Even the higher wages now being offered by many companies aren't attracting workers. Something else is going on. Perhaps it's the "I want it all and I want it now" attitude of so many. I blame a lot of it on free and easy sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll. No need to be successful anymore. No, they can't hire workers in the U.S. for the cost of SLAVES in freakin' China. Our tax, regulatory and monetary policy scheme has made hiring free people uneconomic. Why do you think that is?

I've paid for someone else's retirement all my working life, and still am as I'm still working, even while also collecting SS.

Most people understand that SS is a safety net only and that other means of support in retirement are needed. That's why we have IRA's, 401's, company pension plans, etc.No, it's not. SS was created to further the socialist agenda in the U.S. It encouraged a mentality or dependency instead of self-sufficiency. It's not a coinkydink that we more and more people are willing to live on the dole instead of working these days.
Higher wages are being offered across all skill levels, including entry-level pay. I am astounded at the pay being offered for unskilled work. The higher wages are for jobs that require actual skills and knowledge. When kids are giving As for just showing up, they don't learn anything and are not qualified for the higher wage jobs.
