There is more crime (violent crime especially) in low income areas than areas with less poverty - middle class/upper middle class/rich.

If you look at a map of the crime rate in an urban area, you'll find the mountain peaks centered directly over government housing projects. In Tampa, when the bulldozed the housing projects, the crime problem disappeared.
