Social Credit system

Beats me but I'm taking no chances and will starting earning my brownie points by praising the recent past and current administrations of Obama and Trump for bringing about the most wonderous time in American history.

W kicked it off with his patriot junk. Its happening quicker and quicker. The oddity is how eager the millenials are for marxism/socialism to be ushered in as the savior. What I never foresaw is private companies that are accommodating this process and the willingness of so many millions to broadcast their entire existence through social media. The federal govt doesnt have to do anything anymore to keep tabs on someone.

Millenials are the first generation that does not have a reasonable expectation of having a better life than their parents, and Generation Z even less so.

Why do you think they have that expectation?

Why would they, at best our country is treading water, not really improving like it once did. Whether you agree with them or not, most think that global warming is going to make life harder for them in the future, kids as young as my son (17) see the coming problems with jobs and there not being enough to go around. Him and I have talked about it many times. The more things are automated, the less we need humans. He believes self driving vehicles as the final blow, when we no longer need truck drivers or the multitude of jobs that support them, what will we do to replace those jobs?

Build and service the self driving cars and the infrastructure they run on, for one. Today, there are more people in the world over the age of 65 than under the age of 5. We will run short of people before we run out of jobs.

Automation, robots, AI is certainly a dilemma in contrast to our current infrastructure. All of this progress to make life easier yet younger generations have lost all hope. What a quandary. I don't have an answer for you.

We are already headed in that direction.
No we're not. Not like that. There are privacy issues that are certainly a matter of concern but China built their internet from the ground up to be a tool of social control. Our internet does not end at the border nor does the government have a total monopoly on web expertise.
Faebook started a system to rate the trustworthiness of their users. If the idea is to condition the population to act in a certain way what difference does it make whether it is undertaken by private interests who dominate our government policies or government itself?

There will always be jobs, people are just going to have to resign themselves that the 20th century idea of a job is probably dying for the white-collar bunch.

Younger generations have not exactly lost hope but they have certainly lost confidence in our 20th century ways. All they see is a mess they have to clean up. They will do it but they are not happy about it one bit.

Thank you. I note the poll indicates only 20% of those young people expect to be worse off than their parents. It would be interesting to see a similar poll if this strong economic growth continues for some time.

Facebook is a blight on society but I don't see them doing anything except making money off collecting data and selling it to anybody with a buck. Dump facebook like I did, problem solved.

We have people building and servicing the vehicles now,so that is not a replacement for the driver jobs lost. Same goes for infrastructure.

I disagree about running out of people before jobs, we are getting very good at replacing ourselves with robots or programs.

We cannot just assume that there will always be a new job to replace the ones we lose

We have had 121 months of economic growth, the longest in our country's history, along with a record setting run of positive job growth. How much longer do you think it can continue?

I don't use facebook, but the CIA does. Along with a host of other information technology companies it invests in.

Eliminating meaningless toil is nearly always good as long as it is replaced with something meaningful.

Has it been replaced with something meaningful?

It is not coincidence that as life has gotten "easier" we as a nation have gotten fatter.

You are correct but I made a decision long ago that I was going to live my life as if I actually live in free country. I refuse to live in fear because fear is really the only successful social engineering tool. It has been the pattern that social media platforms in America evolve faster than the government can keep up. This is an an encouraging sign. It tells me that they have limited control over the social engineering potential of social media.
