Zelensky is ABSOLUTELY correct, in asking "demanding" SOLID security assurances from the USA and Europe. - if in return he does not keep up his bid to join NATO - at least till some other Russian president takes over.

And upon that Ukraine and Russia will certainly have talks as how to solve the territory dispute. Most likely via another war. Therefore NATO (if still existent) or the EU would be well advised to refrain from setting foot into Ukraine.

All Putin presently and desperately want's is a ceasefire, so as to rearm and regroup his devastated Armed Forces.

YES - but you can't draw back the time - aka Poland and all these other countries are in NATO. Or in a future separated NATO and EU constellation.

IMO - Zelensky or any other new Ukrainian president knows that they will not be able to join the present NATO constellation or an EU military coalition. So all they are asking for, are SOLID security agreements. And I wouldn't be surprised about the USA setting up an own "new" NATO constellation with their Eastern European buddies - aiming to get Ukraine into their fold.
