I'm working too. Seems most of us essential workers are Democrats.
So what do you do that is so essential?
Iām in the auto industry.
Salesman? Work at the Jiffy Lube, maybe the carwash?
Tire jockey at the tire store?
When you lose your home and the prices drop I'll swoop in and buy your home and rent to you your own home, which is actually my home now. And when things get better and you finally have a downpayment I'll sell it back to you at the raised price. On land contract. And when President Don Jr. in 2032 tanks the economy again, you'll lose it back to me and we will start the process all over again. LOL
Who are you responding to? My shit's already paid for, dinkwad.
I'm talking to most of your friends here who shit their pants when they went 1 week without a paycheck
āBlue collarā and āwhite collarā are not well defined terms. Is a retail cashier blue or white collar? Is an administrative assistant white collar or are only professionals white collar?
Thatās why this question has no clear answer.
However, if you are asking about the proportion of the economically active population who work working class jobs, that is actually well defined. Michael Zweig has given an exact tally on this in āThe Working Class Majority.ā He used the Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational tallies to reach a conclusion.
He defines a working class job as one where you do not manage others but are subject to the control of management, and the job is a manual job where you do not have the kind of autonomy that āprofessionalsā have.
His conclusion is that the manual working class, thus defined, are 62 percent of the economically active population.
But the remainder of the economically active population are not all professionals (āwhite collarā). There are 17 million small business owners and most of them do not have four year college degrees. They are neither āprofessionalsā nor āblue collar workersā.
If you add the professionals and small business owners together, thatās about 36 percent of the economically active population. About 1 to 2 percent are part of the capitalist elite, whose main source of their living is ownership of major assets.
