And that's part of the Democrats' problem. By not doing more to try to protect unions over the past 50 years, unions have become a much less relevant voting bloc. That is something the Democrats need to address big time. Fighting tooth and nail for the rights of workers to unionize should be one of their top priorities going forward.
The Democrats need to do something dramatic to try to change the political calculus. What they have done for the past 20 years has not worked. Stuff like Obamacare with no public option is just not good enough.
I think if they did offer something bold for the working class and middle class, like Medicare For All, then you would see millions of Trump voters switch sides.

By taking popular policies like Medicare For All off the table, the Democrats help the Republicans win every single election. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure.
