Speed to getting it, depends on the state. I think.
I just showed my birth certificate and marriage license. No biggie.

Oh, I see. Not being able to fly is no imposition at all! Doesn't impact my personal freedom one bit!You do know that you really don't have to get it don't you?
You just won't be alliwed to fly or enter a nuclear facility.
You are still free to travel the United States with just a regular license which my state still offers.
Colorado, mostly. No overseas, since military retirement, a significant number of years to say the least. But, getting passport as may visit Canada, this summer.Colorado? Or overseas?
I think the percentage of citizen adults with real ID is closer to 56% or so. But of course probably many in those in blue states that treat illegals the same as citizens probably haven't bothered to jump through all the hoops required to get one.The deadline is May 7th 2025.

License is due for renewal in a couple weeks and I need my real ID to fly.
Had to visit the county government center and show my license to get my missing birth certificate.
Need the birth certificate to get my new real ID license.
Really stupid in a country that has millions of "undocumented" that citizens have to prove who they are to the government with government documents that they issued to us already.
Another layer in the onion of big government waste.
Was worse for my wife who had to provide papers for two name changes and a previous divorce.
Latest I saw is only 37% of Americans have got it so far.

I had to have a certified birth certificate, a copy of my marriage license to explain the name change, my social security number, and two documents verifying my address before I could get my real ID. A pain in the butt for sure but you only have to go through it once. But in my bright blue state the only advantage it gives me is the ability to get on a commercial plane. Voter ID is not allowed here.
But if Trump and Congress are successful making Voter ID a requirement to vote in federal elections--they have no jurisdiction in state or local elections--it will certainly eliminate at least some of the fraud and corruptions in elections. Even better if Real ID is required to access federal services and benefits.
Only two states with Voter ID voted for Kamala. I think only one state that didn't have Voter ID voted for Trump.
LOL. The internet is not always the most reliable source of information in these things? I don't know if my 56% is correct either but it seems more logical.Thanks.
I must have saw the 37% on an older link.
Just do it.I have apparently blown it off for over a decade.
But with the deadline this close and really not a word about another extension, and I need my license renewal anyway, might as well get it.
OK thats funny.Had to visit the county government center and show my license to get my missing birth certificate.

The wife let her passport expire and had to go through the whole process. It was a nightmare for that reason. Was worse for my wife who had to provide papers for two name changes and a previous divorce.

What all does that do WW? Is it worth it?Last year I updated my passport and did Global Entry for some travel in retirement.
For this you have to do an interview and provide biometrics.

Now I see where I got my number.
Apparently MN has a low rate of those getting it...
As of Feb. 3, 2025, 39.65 percent of Minnesotans have REAL ID.
Maybe the snow birds drive to AZ instead?
Kudos for serving our country.Colorado, mostly. No overseas, since military retirement, ..
I hope soIt'd be hard for Somalians to get a Real ID
Took mine with me. Found out, we had to have the new "Official" one. The one I had was from the hospital and county in KY, where I was born, complete with foot print and seal of the State of Kentucky. Same one on file in my Army 201 file, same as with my FS86 for security clearances over the years, but no longer suitable for the Department of Homeland Defense, as far as their National Agency check, though fine for other alphabet agencies. No problem. Went online with State of Kentucky and had the "new", "Official" one sent.OK thats funny.![]()
