So. Have your REAL ID yet? Deadline coming.

What all does that do WW? Is it worth it?

It's kind of like TSA Pre-Check for domestic flights. It's supposed to expedite re-entry for international travel.

Haven't used it for international travel, but TSA Pre-check is worth it if you travel domestically.

Now I see where I got my number.
Apparently MN has a low rate of those getting it...

As of Feb. 3, 2025, 39.65 percent of Minnesotans have REAL ID.

Maybe the snow birds drive to AZ instead?
I'm sure a lot of them do. . . in their shiny $100,000 RVs probably. Minnesota being a bright blue state does not require voter ID. And the last I heard their legislature was debating making it a sanctuary state. So I'm guessing they don't care if illegals vote and a Real ID isn't all that much of a priority there.

Why exactly isn’t a DL or state ID considered a “real” ID?
Something something not verified something something.

You have to submit docs more like a passport. I guess the thought of having the government going ahead and giving us a passport (and saving 2x the trouble) didn't cross anybody's mind.

Will we have to do it all again if the SAVE ACT is enacted?

Yup.
The State Bird is the Common Loon along with the entire Twin Cities metro.

Real ID is a Drivers License or State ID. However it requires valid documentation and you have to be a citizen or legal resident to obtain one.

States can still issue Drivers Licenses or ID to non-qualifying individuals but those licenses cannot be used for certain travel, boarding airplanes, or access to federal facilities.

How is Aspen this year?
Did not go this year. Others in our usual traveling group, could not make it. My son, just got back from Park City, Utah, which I had always heard good things about. Never seen or heard of anything like it, this time, compared to years past in Alta, Crested Butte, Copper Mountain or Granby Ranch. He did not have a single day below freezing. Slopes were melting snow, slush and ice.

Does not require voter ID? Wow! TN requires government photo ID. I have a current voter ID card, but it is a useless paper card, without photo, just something else to jamb up my wallet. I cannot remember how long since a polling place asked to see it.

The deadline is May 7th 2025.

License is due for renewal in a couple weeks and I need my real ID to fly.
Had to visit the county government center and show my license to get my missing birth certificate.
Need the birth certificate to get my new real ID license. 🤪

Really stupid in a country that has millions of "undocumented" that citizens have to prove who they are to the government with government documents that they issued to us already.
Another layer in the onion of big government waste.
:spinner:

Was worse for my wife who had to provide papers for two name changes and a previous divorce.

Latest I saw is only 37% of Americans have got it so far.
I have 2---my license and my passport card.

I just use my passport. way easier, and since I don't need it day to day when I travel inside the US, it can stay safely in the room safe in the hotel.

In MN a voter ID referendum in 2012 failed to pass after an extensive fear campaign that played off the usual crap of racism, would disenfranchise voters and hurt the poor.
Even though the law would have required the poor to receive the ID for free and the state to send workers to nursing facilities and homes to provide ID for the disabled.
The fear campaign worked, but MN politics are controlled by 7 or so metro counties out of 87.
The Twin Cities control the entire state.

Just got done at the DMV. Went easy for me, but saw one dude sent away with instructions for more papers...

But I can fly again...

Nope. Only two states requiring photo ID voted for Kamala. All other states requiring photo ID voted for Trump. I think one state not requiring photo ID voted for Trump.

Makes you wonder how the vote might have turned out if all states required photo ID huh?

Okay but I just needed my existing license, a light bill and a birth certificate. What the hell more could they have wanted from him?

Yet with all those layers of protection people still get away with it. So your solution is to make it even easier?

Well, you don't NEED real ID if you don't plan on flying is what I'm understanding, correct?

He appeared to be a legal immigrant and confused about what was required.
