So apparently there are no deals

It halved the trade deficit and re-shored American innovation and manufacturing.

Almost as good as a Biden choco chip ice cream.
Halving the trade deficit means people have less things to buy. Less things to buy means less consumer spending.
An please point out some incident of reshoring?

They are just gonna send out letters demanding obedience.

I suspect as a negotiation tactic it will be a failure, but then I don't think that's gonna be a surprise to anyone.

But it was just a short time ago that there was bragging about how many deals and how great they were.

Was that all just a lie?

"So apparently there are no deals" hate to say I...

oh never mind

No it doesn't.

That's literally retarded.

You don't even have the most rudimentary awareness or lucidity regarding the economic environment which we inhabit.

Sad.

As I have pointed out a few times already, it took the first Trump administration three years just to rebrand NAFTA into the USMCA.

Three years.

And Trump made a YUGE deal about it.

Schizophrenic Trump 2.0 immediately set about saying the USMCA was a piece of shit and America was getting ripped off.

Rather frequently, you have to wonder if Trump is the stupid one, or if he knows his followers are. Because it is a literal impossibility that trade treaties with over 150 other countries can be significantly renegotiated in Trump's 90 day window.

I think in this case, it's both. Trump is a moron, and his followers, by definition, fell right in line with his idiocy.

We're talking about an intellectually and emotionally stunted man with an 8th-grade mindset.

"Dear Mr. Japan, here's the story. You're going to pay a 25% tariff on your cars."

The "deal" he made with Britain, with whom we actually have a fricking trade SURPLUS, was to change their tariff from 10 percent to...10 percent. With a handful of gimmes both ways.

What a genius, eh?

Problem will be when everyone realizes they don't need the US any more. They can just get on with life by trading with each other, and leave the US to be the pariah
It was happening regardles of whether a D or R is in control of the government though.

You're so libertarian.

Unfortunately I suspect that many nations never cared to negotiate in good faith as there wasn't a sense of urgency present. They are relying on Trump and the TACO principle to prevail and thus delaying was the better option in their minds. It's a high stakes game of poker to operate this way if you are a nation looking to access the U.S market, a game of Russian roulette.

. . .and from the right I have been called a socialist.
Both are a bit off the mark.

Truth is, just anti-establishment.

That was definitely true before MAGA.

Post-MAGA it's a lot more nuanced than that.

There are now more MAGA Republicans even at the top, than there are establishment stooges.

It's why there was no extended war in Iran.

were still the bread basket of the world ! they gonna feed themselves eh ?
You guys are hilarious in your self regard and your self aggrandisement.

If the EU and the CPTPP align, there's 30% of world gdp excluding the US from the trade deals they're making with each other.

You really think they have no agriculture?

No worries, you can sell arms to China and Russia to pay for your imports of rare earths, fossil fuels, fertiliser and the rest. Because why would others buy from such an unreliable supplier?
