It's necessary that way, to get anyone to listen to their bullshit.

They can't just come out and admit the simple truth, they can't just say "it's a matter of faith". Instead they have to claim "truth", so they cross over into science and math and other places where authority lives.

Because they're fundamentally insecure in their own faith. That's where this stuff comes from. Deep down inside, there is doubt.

Whereas real science is exactly the opposite. Doubt is not an issue for scientists. There are OTHER issues, to be sure, but doubt isn't one of them.

Do you honestly believe we could understand how the entity called God created the universe if He chose to explain to us the scientific details? We barely have a grasp of quantum mechanics and the creation of the universe or the many universes probably involves physics far beyond that which we comprehend today.

Plus if God did tell us how to create a universe you can bet we would take some of that knowledge and use it to develop weapons that we would employ to destroy ourselves and possibly this planet if not the entire solar system or maybe even the galaxy.

We lack the maturity to handle the processes involved in creating a universe.

Of course we could understand it. He/she is god. It’s much harder for we simpletons to communicate with each other than it is for a god to pass on his thoughts and deeds. He/she’s god. Ever notice ? God has stopped talking to the “people” of faith using word of mouth as soon as we developed reliable communications and retention means. “Jesus”, a cell phone would be a very reliable and easy way for god to talk to everyone in their own spoken language, instantaneously. Obviously, god isn’t up to the task. Or, hasn’t taken advanced math and physics. He lacked engineering skills.

A favorite tactic of our resident trolls is to play word games with the definitions.

You'll notice two different versions of this tactic in recent threads.

Orthodoxy has a lot of inertia, even more when it serves the purpose of a troll. But when it doesn't suddenly orthodoxy is worthless and all beliefs are equal.

One has to wonder why these idiots hang out in the science section. They wouldn't last two minutes in a science conference but they can lurk here without much penalty - which leaves it up to the actual scientists to impose penalties, and they mostly don't like doing that.

However I have no problem with it. I don't mind destroying trolls. I'll try to help them FIRST, but if they don't want to be helped the best thing is to get rid of them. It's the same thing with the homeless, I don't mind them as long as they don't leave their garbage all over the place. Many of them use their condition as an excuse, and I suggest they'd get a lot more play if they demonstrated some redeeming social value. I'm not going to keep giving them blankets if they keep ending up dirty and abandoned. Eventually I'll say "no more" and tell them how they're being assholes. Some get it, some don't. Some don't care, they figure they're entitled to be assholes cause they don't have a place to live.
