smart phones

Here is a $250,000 iPhone.

I had no idea phones were collectable. I wonder if this old Nokia 3310 is actually worth anything? It's been in a drawer for decades.

TRS 80, then Commodore 64.
You go back a long time, Crep. Until this conversation, I thought you, a decade or more younger than me, but we must be in similar age group.

I'm at the very beginning of GenX. Born in '67
Wow. You are more than a decade younger. I was born in '54. Be sure to get out and do the interest, somewhat chancy things you might want to do, while you can, before you start breaking easier, for no particularly dramatic reason. You are at a great age. Be sure to make the most of it.

I spent a decade in various PMCs and ran a security consulting and contracting firm than included international tourism for a couple more. I have major joint problems from extreme activities, scars and tattoos acquired all over the world, then sold my company and retired when I was 56. Currently writing a memoir and living quietly in the suburbs, but I still do some consulting.

I am a simple guy, I have a $200 motorola and does what I need, I call and text and maybe look something up away from the house.
If I want to watch youtube I have my own custom built computer by me and a 32 inch ISP

then you have the iphone crowd who view it as more of a status symbol, like it's the mercedes of phones

do you really need a $1400 phone? it's the phone of choice in movies for the rich and famous, bah any android phone is not good enough

thoughts?
I go for a somewhat more expensive Android as I do use my phone for a lot of different things and need at least some storage but never more than a few hundred that Xfinity lets us pay in small monthly payments with no interest. And we get our phone service pretty much free included with our cable/internet/land line package. (We do pay $20 for 1 gig of data shared between Hombre and me who have separate mobile phone lines and that is almost always plenty.)

Our kids have the expensive Iphones and they do a lot more with them than we do, but us 'old timers' don't need, use, or want all that extra technology.

In truth for security and safety, everybody does need a mobile phone these days but the world would continue nicely if all those phones did was allow us to make/receive calls though texting is really helpful and also ability to take a photo with the phone is often very helpful.
