Wisconsin Town’s Ban on Electronic Voting Machines Triggers Federal Review
By yourNEWS Media Newsroom
MADISON, WI — The decision by the small, rural community of Thornapple, Wisconsin, to eliminate electronic voting machines has prompted a federal review over concerns about how voters with disabilities are casting their ballots.
In June 2023, the Town of Thornapple, located in Rusk County with a population of 711, voted to switch to hand-counting paper ballots. This decision, made by the town’s supervisory board, has raised alarms among state and federal officials, especially after the April presidential primary election when advocates for disabled voters voiced their concerns.
Town supervisor Tom Zelm confirmed that the decision was taken last year amid a discussion in the local newspaper and visits from a prominent purveyor of election conspiracy theories. However, town officials have not disclosed the specific reasons behind the vote, which could potentially violate federal laws mandating accessible voting options. Requests for the minutes of the meeting under the state’s public records law have not been answered.

On Tuesday, the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division sent a letter to Thornapple’s chief election official, Suzanne Pinnow, seeking information about the decision and how the town accommodates voters with disabilities. Pinnow said the town board instructed her not to discuss the matter, but she claimed no disabled voters were turned away during the April election.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission has reminded Thornapple of its obligations under federal law, but it lacks the authority to enforce compliance without a formal complaint. Federal law mandates that each polling place include at least one piece of accessible voting equipment.
Zelm, who was not present during the vote, stated that election officials assist disabled voters in casting their ballots. “It doesn’t necessarily require electronic machines to do that,” he said.

Federal DOJ officials have requested Thornapple provide the necessary information within 14 days. The ongoing review underscores the importance of ensuring all voters, including those with disabilities, have equal access to the ballot.

Proof that the 711 residents need electronic help counting their votes.
They just don't understand how elections work.(sarc).
Paper ballots need to be backup in every precinct in the United States. As usual the FBI chose the wrong side to be on...
American needs paper ballots AND purple fingers.
Other countries manage to do paper ballots and have the results the same night. Why are we so inferior?
Thornapple is in the northern part of Wisconsin. It's a farm town with nothing but Trump signs every where. Lots of gun owners and pinko haters. I'm surprised more towns haven't done this already.
Democrats Neo-Marxists in power will from this day forward will make sure this little town will be permanently barred from receiving federal funds. The Feds also found very combustible areas in the town.
Expect Wray to determine that the Town of Thornapple is a den of White Supremacists and a raid will soon follow.
Surely the Town of Thornapple doesn't have enough illegal aliens, Mayorkas will remedy that and ship in a few thousand before the week is out.
Meanwhile one hundred forty three Democrats in Congress voted to allow illegal aliens vote in the District of Columbia in the coming 2024 election.
