We have a few acres (very few) between Lansing and Grand Rapids and we got around a little bit in Michigan.
Beautiful State, nice people, smart people, but the politics in that place are just stoopid. Even the Republicans are mostly stoopid. We had Peter Meijer and Justin Amash (a self-described liberturdian) before that for our District Reps (had we decided to take up residence). If there were two more useless Republican politicians, I don't know who they might be.
We were gonna build a house there but -- They're stupid, too. I hate to say this but -- Michigan has no future. At least East of Lansing has no future. The Western part of the State may survive and do well but the rest of it? Gonzo. Flint, Dee-Troit, Dearbornistan.... Gonzo.
You know their biggest problem is up there? They think too highly of themselves. They got nothing. Nothing. But they think they're still the Industrial Giants of the 1950s and -- They're not. They are -- Nothing. Old, worn-down, dilapidated Cities, Towns, Villages and buildings, nobody wants to work and if they do show up, they want a fortune and their work isn't all that good. Drugs everywhere. I mean, Hard Drugs. I'm okay with walking into a Grocery store up there and smelling the marijuana smoke coming out of the Refrigerate part of the store. I'm talking people walking around with tombstones in their eyes alternating with tweaking the next day.
It's not your fault but you might want to look to re-settle in a Place with a future. A future for you and your family.
While you can
Agree with most of this, especially the politics. The only thing I would point out is that Detroit is having a true regeneration. My son and his pals live in lower Oakland Co and they go down there nearly every weekend. The city is bustling and worlds safer than it used to be (in pockets, of course). When we moved here in 95 such a thing was unimaginable.
BTW, Grand Rapids went through a similar revitalization, only years and years before Detroit.
