Skunks

Part 4 in my wildlife thread series. I just went out for a walk and when I came home guess what was in my front yard? I couldn't get a good enough picture so I'm not going to post it since I was pretty far away from it, (for good reason) but it was pretty young and out when it wasn't even dark yet. It was out there digging for grubs and pretty cute too.


I've actually heard that skunks are rather docile, but I still don't want to make any sudden movements and accidentally startle it and wind up scaring it because I don't really know what triggers a skunk to spray or what you're supposed to do when you see one so I just walked really calmly around it through the yard (it was on the driveway) and up to the front door and it was pretty chill.

When on a family camping trip when my daughter was a pre teen, she went walking with some friends when they came upon some skunks. They knew not to approach but they reported that as they ran away, the skunks chased them a short way. LOL, some excited young girls!

I may not know exactly what you're supposed to do when approaching a skunk, but I'm pretty sure that running isn't one of them.

Just don’t be a female cat - skunks are known to be kind of … rapey
