Debating isn't good experience except for debating.
Being a governor is good experience for POTUS.....but the problem with DeSantis is who's backing him. (Bush)
If DeSantis is the nominee I'll vote for him. My gut tells me he isn't ready to be POTUS though. He has always had a fairly friendly electorate and supportive legislature. He could likely have neither in Washington DC and though I like him, he doesn't seem to be the type to think quickly on his feet. I don't know if he has Trump's courage to find ways around the hostility or stubbornness and get things done. He's pretty spot on with the issues he supports but I don't know if he has Trump's creativity, instincts, vision, skill set either on the home front or world stage.

In other words he's a good governor. But as Ross Perot once famously said, being governor of Arkansas doesn't extrapolate into a good President anymore than managing a 7/11 means you can run Walmart.

Reagan was governor of a state larger than many countries and he was a pretty good President. But Carter and Bush were both disappointments.

Nevertheless, if the people want DeSantis he has my vote. I'll be voting Trump in the primary election though. Not because I like him personally as very often I don't. But he's proved he can do the job in the best MAGA fashion and he deserves another term.

Kick the RINOs out of the party. Let them see how they are really disliked by the party they helped
First there is no provision to kick anybody out of a political party.

Yes, choose the Patriot over the RINO when we can. But if the RINO is the only choice we have, he/she would be head and shoulders better than ANY Democrat they're likely to nominate if for no other reason than the constituency they represent. Republican Americans want a strong, free, secure, prosperous American for all and as close to world peace as we can get. We want only as much government as is necessary.

As bad as a RINO is at sharing or accomplishing that vision, he/she will get us closer to it than any Democrat.

And if Patriots and other Republicans don't hold together in 2024 and support the GOP nominee, we lose again. And that would be tragic.

The problem with DeSantis is he owes his allegiance to the same people that Biden takes his orders from.

I don't trust him to have the courage to stand up to them.

I don't distrust him that much. He will never be a Biden or Obama. But I do wonder if he has the courage to try and try again to find ways around the roadblocks they'll throw up against him. I wonder if he has the creative instincts to find solutions, i.e. ability to think outside the box.

In other words he is pretty untested on the national and world scenes. He could surpass all my expectations and be great. Or not.

DeSantis and Noem are pretty much the only two who did have the courage to not only put up a fight against the federal establishment but to win on behalf of their constituents against it.

That people ignore that reality boggles the mind.

I know he's a liar about his military record.
He claims he was a Navy SEAL, but all he did was become a JAG officer for the SEAL teams, which means he never went thru BUDs training or was assigned to a team.

I don't get it. Why would standing behind Trump involve "ditching all the other R's"?
It shouldn't. All of us should choose the guy or gal we think should be the nominee and get behind that person. But we can do that without trashing everybody else and we should.

Ultimately a lot of us are going to be disappointed over who the GOP nominee is. But if we can't set aside our preferences and disappointment and rally behind that person, whoever it is, the Democrats win in 2024. And we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

He was accused of saying that but all the fact checkers say no, he never claimed he was a Navy Seal. Somebody I think on Twitter/X put out a meme saying he made that claim. And I checked it pretty thoroughly as best as I could and could find absolutely nobody saying he said that.

DeSantis sometimes sort of manipulates the facts just a bit but I don't think there is a politician in the world who doesn't do that once in awhile. But I've not found him blatantly dishonest either.

He said that he was assigned to a SEAL unit. Then later he amended it to say he was a JAG officer for a SEAL team.
But when you claim you were assigned to an Special Operation unit like the SEALs or 5th Special Forces Group like I was....everyone assumes you were on a team. We had support people in our group that all they did was cook or drive a truck. They weren't even airborne qualified, much less fully Tabbed like us guys on the teams.

He was a lawyer. He played soldier, but he wasn't a warrior. They say he got a Bronze Star for something, but it was probably just because he was in Iraq. He wasn't kicking down doors by any stretch.

Well I wasn't there so I don't know for sure what he said about anything. But I do know that meme was created to smear him. And those of us who object to that kind of tactic took strong exception to it. I am not a DeSantis supporter in that I just lack the confidence he's ready for the job or is tough enough for it. Honestly my second choice after Trump would have been Pence but he has already dropped out.

Doug Burgum actually might deserve a second look but nobody has heard of him which could be deadly in a national election. I like Nikki as a person but just feel in my bones she isn't ready to be President either, and I don't want the first Madam President to to be overwhelmed. She really needs a better foundation for her campaign than 'Trump can't win.'

I know from experience in the Navy and the Army. Guys were always saying they were SEALs or assigned to a SF Group....but turns out none of them made it thru "Selection", much less passed BUDs or UDT training.
Once you get accepted you don't want to be assigned to a conventional unit anymore. You stay in Special Forces for the rest of your career. My PLT SGT at 26th Signal Batt in Germany said he used to workout with the Special Forces guys at Bragg, but he just went along for a ruck every once in awhile. He never went on any missions.

This is the case with DeSantis. He was a lawyer. He wasn't doing the grunt work. We are always looking out for Stolen Valor types. One of them was going thru the Q Course with me, and he was always wearing a Scuba Qualification badge. Somebody looked into his service record and found out he never passed Scuba school. They bounced him out of the Q Course for that.

They used to let support folks wear the Green Beret at 5th Group until somebody complained about a pregnant girl that was seen walking around group wearing one. JFK gave the team guys and their commanders the Green Beret. Not cooks and truck drivers. The Rangers used to wear a Black Beret....but the Army took it from them and gave it to everyone cheapening the beret for everyone. So the Rangers switched to a Tan Beret which I thought looked pretty cool. Air borne units wear a Maroon Beret, which I never wore. I always wore my Green Beret.

And thank you for your service.

You don't have to. It was fucked up at times but I mostly enjoyed it and would never do it any other way.
I come from a family in which every single one of my uncles were in active duty service overseas in WWII and several also in Korea. My father did not go for whatever reason but he and my mother worked as civilian employees at a POW camp housing German combat soldiers for most of the war. We have a number of military guys and gals in every generation since representing every part of the military, including the Coast Guard, except nobody was ever an astronaut. We've had family or good friends in every war zone. I have worked in and around military bases quite a bit of my adult life.

Believe me when I say I have the utmost respect for the men and women in uniform and yes, I would be less than honest or decent if I didn't thank each and every one of you for your service. (And yes I know sometimes things get really bad and nobody is ever 100% saint. But serve you did and you deserve appreciation for it.)

My Dad said when he went to Japan after WWII he did Corporal Radar's Job on M.A.S.H. My grandfather was a welder in the Navy. My uncles were in the Navy. Uncle Bob was a Torpedo-man's Mate. I did 5 years in the Navy myself as a Hull-maintenance Technician. Basically a cross between a Firefighter, NBC Warfare Specialist, and a welder, ship-fitter, sheet-metal mechanic.

I started out as a 36L Electronic Switch Repair Tech when I joined the Army. It's pretty much a Bell Telephone shelter with Top Secret COMSEC equipment in it. I had to have a TS-SCI security clearance to go to the course at Ft Gordon GA. While I was in Germany I hated the unit so much I jumped at the opportunity to go SF. I talked to a Detachment Commander from one of the 10th Group teams in Bad Tolz FRG and he told me I should volunteer for SF Selection.
So after about a year and a half I graduated from the Q Course at Ft Bragg. They assigned me to 5th Group as an 18E Special Forces Communications SGT and that's where I was when I retired. They asked me when I got here if I wanted to go to school or get on a team. I said put me on a team. I spent more time on that team than DeSantis spent in the Navy. Only difference between me and the other guys on the team was I carried the heaviest ruck because I had to carry a radio and kitbag for it even before I started putting my other gear in there. My feet paid a price for that. Most guys that carry 130 lb rucks will tell you that their knees and their feet are screwed up permanently.
