Should there be a voting test before elections to ensure people are voting on policies and not just blindly voting?

Since such a vote impacts an entire nation. In Americas case, an entire Western civilization I think this would be prudent. A short 8-10-questions, it wouldn't be too difficult but it would be policy driven to ensure that voters are voting based on critical features.

75% Is a pass and you can vote, anything less and you have to take a refresher civics and policy course to have your voting ability for the current cycle reinstated.

They could throw in some trick questions to eliminate poorly informed and or biased voters. For instance, "I'm only voting for this candidate because they are a white/black man, or white/black woman".

The system would kick them out and advise them to complete the aforementioned short course within 72 hours to have their vote reinstated this cycle. It would be a more exhausting test though to overcome any prejudiced for those voting based on demographics.

Great idea. We could also ask them to determine how many jellybeans were in a jar. Anything to prevent someone not like you from voting, right?

A vote for a nations leader is the most critical of votes. Why would you want the uninformed to vote with so much at stake? In some cases perhaps millions of lives.

Voting is a "right." That said, it is also a responsibility.
Voting should be limited to land owners, as such, you are then a shareholder in the nation.
You should have to pass a basic questionnaire to show you actually know something of the country and the candidates and not just pulling levers, thus eliminating election noise so that the ballots counted actually represent informed opinions.
This would challenge people to get more involved in their country.

You are a member of a notable group. Many of the sharpest, most notable racists throughout history have proposed exactly what you did. I'm sure you are proud to join that group.

What notable group am I am member of?

Racists who are desperately looking for ways to limit the vote.

What?! I am trying to cut DOWN on the racists and INCREASE the informed and educated.

It's been said that Trump voters are racist and nazis, right? So, they would fall into "Im voting for him because he's a white man" category and would be obligated to complete a compulsory course to prove they understand the issues and policies.

Your response is ironic really considering I am trying to improve voting. This goes for all nations in which people are electing their leaders.

I'm sure all the racists that came up with your plan before you did told themselves exactly what you just said. They were wrong too.

Wow. You have basically weakened the racist word now too. One word at a time I suppose.

I think voters should be informed and not biased, this should always be the case.

Now if media did their job, maybe people would be better informed and receive balanced information

Sorry. I'm not gonna discuss your racist ideas as if they were a valid option.

Maybe you are the racist if you immediately revert to that as the reason I would demand such questions be asked.

If nations don't elect citizens based on policies, for what other reason would they?

We have a right to vote, the government has no business who or why we vote for anything.

There is no law against blindly voting or voting in the most racist, stupid, partisan manner.

We could could debate whether there should be until the cows come home, but the devil is aways in the details, i.e. who writes and administers the test? That could play a huge part in who would be allowed to vote. So my initial reaction is no, no test.

I will be happy with registration and voting laws made as tamper proof as possible and a media that gives all sides a fair hearing and editorializes only on the editorial page. That would reinstall integrity to the system and insure that voters were as informed as we could reasonably make them.

None of your business or anyone else’s business who or why I vote for others. It is a right to vote.

People vote for their own reasons. Not your job to determine what those reasons might be.

My fear is the government could decide who could and could not vote, and it doesn’t have to be racist, it could holier than thou far left or far right nut jobs that could use their authority to stop a person from voting simply because they disagree with you.

A Republic Makes Citizens Mere Spectators

Why should a voter learn all that? Electing has little to do with voting. The people should have the right to veto any legislative act and Supreme Court decision.
