I'm actually a born again Christian who wears my cross necklace every day whenever I remember to put it on because I think of it as my spiritual collar. It reminds me that I belong to Jesus. However, I'm not really phased what other people do as that's between them and God. That's none of my business.

I have a question that has always bothered me a bit... if a guillotine were used to kill Jesus would we wear little guillotines around our necks?... I asked a Priest that question once and he scolded me....

I make it a habit to never wear symbols of torture and execution.

I personally won't wear it because it's too much of an idol in my mind. I don't like material things to "remind" me of God, when He is right there with me

Great question. The cross, and especially those with Jesus hanging on it is a warning to those who screw with Rome. Last I heard Jesus defeated the cross and is alive and well.

I’m not a huge fan of the late George Carlin, but if I’m not confusing him with somebody else, he once asked a similar question about the electric chair.

I had a small Jewish Star of David between the Ten Commandments patch on my Multi Cam Level IV Body Armor Rig for all my CSM ( California State Militia ) activities .

I think that's from Vonnegut?

That's my take on it.

Jesus died so we could be forgiven for all sins, so if wearing a cross for the wrong reason is a sin, it's covered, by the very suffering and death the cross represents.

A little ironic, I guess . . .

Okay now actually that's a good point LOL but I wear the cross as symbolic of why He died for my sins not His death itself.

I'm okay when I talk politics too, you just don't understand where I'm coming from...

This question (for me) is about more than the wearing of a cross itself, especially as I consider it from my (early life) understanding of Christianity. "Taking the Lord's name in vain" means more than "don't be cursing."

I think it also means "Don't use your faith (or symbols of your faith) for vanity." "Don't be doing shit in my name, when it's not really in my name."

It's such an obvious thing to me, it seems like a memory, but I can't remember when or where I ever heard that take from anyone else.

At my church there is a crucifix above the altar with the form of Jesus on the cross... to me that is different... but just the instrument of his death alone has always troubled me... but I don't find many people who feel this way so I usually don't mention it...
I'll save the question for after I die and hopefully God willing go to Heaven...

That reflects and possibly feeds the whole difference between Catholics and Protestant stuff I heard growing up. (Especially as the two sides fought in Ireland.)

I remember the conversations going something like, "those Catholics still have him on the cross - THEY - don't acknowledge that he's not on there anymore." (simplified version.)

Interesting Thanks...
