The sole purpose of TSA is authority over the security of public travel in the United States. TSA is created as a response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Couple of days ago, coalition of Republicans and some Democrats were voting on bipartisan amendment to the "Rights for Transportation Security Officers Act" that would make it harder for the Transportation Security Agency to hire people who have been convicted of sexual assault, terrorism and other violent crimes. The amendment passed, however...

174 Democrats Vote Against Amendment

It seems that majority of Democrats, including "squad" and "socialists", wouldn't mind that TSA hire people with terrorist ties or those who have been convicted of sexual misconduct with minors and other criminals. Only 41 Democrats voted for amendment that along with Republican votes was passed.

What is not surprising is the none of MSM reported on this

Democrats have declared they support criminals and terrorists over American citizens.

Who in the right mind would want anyone with less than spotless record to work for TSA?

Beside of employing unemployable, when your own employee tries to smuggle cocaine from Puerto Rico, something is very wrong with vetting process. Yeah, give sexual predator a job of patting people going thru security and expect they'll behave.

The government and private companies hire hackers to catch hackers.
So, TSA should hire terrorists to catch terrorists?

That's a pretty dumb argument, even for Democrats.

Why would majority of Democrats vote against amendment to prevent sex offenders and terrorists from working at TSA?

If you think about it, that's the Democrat's constituency. I wouldn't be surprised if they start hiring illegals.

What is the bottom line here? The TSA is having a hard time finding people willing to violate the rights of individuals and go to work for the TSA so the TSA has to hire people that are questionable.

While, no some should not be hired the bigger picture needs addressed here. It's kinda ironic to complain about hiring those with a criminal record to violate the rights of the people.

One also should note that the article is full of hyperbole of the political worse kind.

Since article is truth, the hyperbole part is your biased opinion.

Here is the bill with all introduced amendments. HR-1140

Then I found the link that shows various votes on bill and amendments. HR-1140 Votes

It seems that House was almost unified until an this amendment was proposed to restrict TSA from employing terrorists and whatnot, that was proposed by Democrats.

I got lost in rabbit hole when I saw on final passage of the bill, only 14 Republicans voted YES. R’s seemed to be universally on board, then the D’s fought all in against the terrorist/sex predator amendment but it passed anyway, then R’s completely about-faced and votes against the bill, due to collective bargaining.

Edit: After briefly reading the bill, it seems the provisions for terrorists are already a matter of law. The bill is mainly about management, pay, and union representation. The portions related to terrorism and mental illness are pretty much just redundant.

So the question really is, WHY 174 Democrats vote against it? Were it just those two provisions, or something else?

Politicians seem good at creating bills to make something illegal that is already illegal. Hence the hyperbole of the article.

Depends on where you live but try finding someone that will accept that and then have to tell the 86 year old woman that yes, she needs to remove her clothes because you don't believe that's an adult diapers she is wearing.

Half of them are not doing anything anyways. I'm sure the other half would perform better for double pay.
